Or maybe it's because Notre Dame is a traditional power, with a huge national fan following, and is undefeated. I can assure you ESPN's producers couldn't give a flying fuck about appeasing Mike Golic with Notre Dame coverage.

Shouldve asked em when he was in the booth when they played Boston College, pretty obvious.

Mike Golic is a symptom of sports media fascination with Notre Dame, not the cause.

Golic was a captain at ND, his brother was a captain at ND, and his two sons currently play for ND. It's natural that Golic would talk about them a lot. But to say ESPN is pimping them just to appease Golic is stupid. ND has a contract with NBC. They are ESPN's competition.

Unless of course ND contract is about to expire with NBC and ESPN is trying to get it, but I think it's more just Golic being a fan.

By the way, for the record, I would like to state that while I believe ND will beat USC and then deservedly play for the national championship, I also believe ND should go fuck itself. I've never bought into that pious touchdown jesus schtick, it's always been a fraud and a hypocrisy dating back to Lou Holtz if not before that even. And while there are certainly elements of fraud and hypocrisy found in all major college athletics, nowhere is it more fraudulent and more hypocritical than Notre Dame football.

Hey Bobert, Will you be tailgating? This is my first ND-SC game and don't know if I should head out early or if I should do my tailgating at the pubs downtown and silver line it in. Or is anyone else going to the game?
You know, but that's valid because if we are all gonna die anyway shouldn't we be enjoying ourselves now? You know, I'd like to quit thinking of the present, like right now, as some minor insignificant preamble to something else.

Say whatever else you will about the Notre Dame and the mythology and economics of the football program, but 97% of their football players graduate within the six year window that the NCAA measures. The University leads the NCAA in the overall rate of student athletes graduating in all sports. ND is the paradigm of what student athletics is supposed to be about.

I am sure those players are taking the exact same course loads (and exact same courses) that other ND students take.

I am sure those players are living in the same dorms and eating the same food that other ND students live with.

I am sure those players turned down $100,000 from Ohio State and Auburn just to play for the glory of God at Notre Dame.

All Notre Dame freshman, including the football players, have to take the same first year set of courses, including college calculus. They're also required to live in the (non-athletic, non-coeducational) dorms as underclassmen.

There is no way in hell that 97% of football players on an athletic scholarship can pass college calculus.

Calculus isn't even mentioned in the bible, so it's not real, so why do they have to study it?

Some of Notre Dame's students aren't even Catholic and I'm pretty sure at least a few of the brown ones aren't Irish. Hypocrisy indeed. However, they all drink the green koolaid. To wash down their communion.

Plus Newton was a real heretic. Believed the Council of Nicaea had erred when they came up with the whole Holy Trinity thing. He had to renounce this belief to keep his position at Cambridge.

It's his fault they have zero discipline, can't execute a decent play near the goal line, and for not kicking the field goal to make it a 6-point game and try to extend it. At the very least, he should fire the defensive coordinator because that is maybe the worst-tackling team I've seen all year. But he won't because the DC is his dad. Lane Kiffin is a snake-oil salesman who talks a good game, but hasn't actually accomplished a thing.

They may have been overrated, but 5 losses with that talent is a joke.

I say this as someone who hates USC but they were no way overrated before the season started. They went 7-5 mainly because of this...

I do have a feeling Monte Kiffin is going to "retire" after the season.
