Like Georgia?
I really don't think a final four system is that much better than the current system. It will just move the sports talk radio screaming matches and ESPN talking head debates down the rankings by two spots. Think about last year: was Oregon v. Stanford for 4 and 5 really easier to work out of than Alabama and Oklahoma State were for 2 and 3? And the Boise States of the world will still be locked out of the cartel.
But that is the objective. Keep the rich rich.
A final four system isn't much better, but it's a start and the NCAA will look to expand once they see this makes them more money than the current system. There are some people (albeit a relatively small figure for now) who are pushing towards an eventual 16-team playoff system much like the FCS schools currently have. It may be a while before that comes to fruition, but it's something they could eventually get to in the future. However, they will not get there without trying this system first.
Also, the NCAA and BCS cannot keep having the title game during the middle of the week. Making it on the weekend and promoting it like the NCAA's own version of Super Bowl Sunday could increase the public's interest in the event dramatically.
This will be a infinitely better than the current system. I'm sorry, but we have to start somewhere. Did you read the list of teams that were ranked number three in the last decade and got excluded from the big game? The list goes on and on. The biggest concern of all of the opponents of the final-four playoff system was that this would just be that beginning. That every year there would be a push to expand the playoffs, and they're absolutely right. In 2014 there's a good chance those three games will post the highest ratings of any college football games in history, and we'll probably have an eight team system by 2016-17. About fucking time.
EDIT: pretty much what TusconGuy said.
Well, bobert, we have some clarity in the QB competition at Notre Dame.

More child-sex related news out of the world of college football -

(AP) EAGLE LAKE, Minn. - The head football coach at Minnesota State, Mankato, was arrested Tuesday on suspicion of child pornography, sheriff's officials said.
Todd Hoffner, 46, was in custody on suspicion of using underage people in a sexual performance and possession of child pornography, Blue Earth County Sheriff's Capt. Rich Murry told the Mankato Free Press.
Hoffner had not been formally charged by Tuesday evening, and it was not immediately clear whether he had an attorney. His home phone number was disconnected.
Messages left for sheriff's officials and prosecutors were not immediately returned to The Associated Press.
Hoffner was escorted off the football practice field Friday and has been on leave from his coaching position since then, the university said in a statement. Spokesman Dan Benson added that a university investigation is pending.
"The University is not aware of any allegations affecting university students or program participants," Benson said in the statement.
Hoffner is in his fifth year as Minnesota State, Mankato's head football coach. He led the team to the playoffs in 2008 and 2009, and a share of the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference title in 2011.
He has a 34-13 record at Minnesota State, Mankato, and was named NSIC coach of the year in 2009. He was previously the offensive coordinator at the University of South Dakota.
He is married and has three children.
we'll see about that.

observations:
a. Rice is not on the list!
b. A Big 10 team is.
I don't think anyone told South Carolina the game was tonight.
Welp. There goes the season. We're red shirting a freshman out of Florida for our next QB. Southwick sucks.
I don't think anybody expected Boise State to win that game, though. The defense looks pretty good, they just ran into one of the best running backs in the nation who seemed to get stronger as the game went on.
I agree about Southwick. Kellen Moore and Jared Zabransky, he is not.
Michigan State's D is straight up nasty and a lot of teams are going to struggle against them like Boise did tonight. Boise was only in the game because MSU's offense gave them 10 points. Sparty has only 1 good player on offense and at some point this year you have to think thats gonna bite them in the ass.
This is creepy...
This is awesome...
