A friend and I go to Big 5 sporting goods and we see a watch in a nice case with original price $79.99. Then notice 5 markdown tags stuck to it with the lowest one being $5.99. The watch looks kind of ugly, no brand name, no instructions, but it says it's radio controlled. What? We ask cashiers what is a radio controlled watch?. They don't know but say it doesn't come with a battery and that's why it's so cheap. Friend buys it out of curiosity since it's only $5.99. We immediately buy a battery at the mall to test it. Watch doesn't seem to be very good investment yet.


I walked into GNC with same friend b/c he was looking for guarana pills for energy. Employee couldn't find any but tried to sell him on all kinds of crap nobody needs. They talked for at least 15 minutes straight about supplements and finally friend tells employee he's not buying what he's selling. Employee looked disappointed deep inside. This is a store I rarely see anyone shopping in. Then friend asks, "How's business?". I think to myself, really? Awkward silence, then employee says uh, well time's are kind of tough, blah blah blah. He nods. I bought a protein bar to be nice.
