From all accounts this is supposed to be a big year for art but I haven't been up on much of it. The big deals this year will obviously be shit like Anubis and Wall St. both of which are burning. The Wall St. burn in the outer playa will be nuts.
There's no Hudson project out there this year.
I'm not sure what it's called but there's a new giant art car out there by some of the same welders that made blissdance. The thing's built on a decomissioned missil transport vehicle. You'll recognize it by the giant plume of lights on top.
EDIT: almost forgot. The Pier is apparently really stepping it up this year. There's going to be a sunken pirate ship.
Aside from that it's all same old same old as far as I know.

January thru April 29th - The worst time of the year here.
I talked with a friend who is out there right now and he says there are patches of loose dirt 5 inches deep, riding your bike is possible if you're careful where you ride, the city is a total dust bowl, and it was so windy at one point it was sending sheets of plywood flying.
Can't wait to get out there.

Amen.
I'll be packing extra rope, steaks, poles, cords, and gorilla tape. Will probably go with a shade tarp that will give a little in the wind. Changed a bit of my tent/shade design to at least handle not flying away and keeping out the dust. Freshening up on my knot skills as well. Debating if I should pack something to tape up my windows with after somebodies structure goes flying into my truck, but that's just kinda asking for it.
What's the count on the % of virgin burners attending this year?
not nearly as much as we probably thought, but still probably much higher than other years. My guess is still only about 15% tops though.
I'll bet most of them heard stories from their friends who were virgins in 2010 and 2011. "OMG the weather's great. don't let those crusty vets scare you."
So this is like EDC with more art right?

Woa.But the arrangement came under fire in November 2011 when Defendant District Attorney James Shirley advised Black Rock City that Judge Richard Wagner of the Nevada's Sixth District Court had asked him to amend the festival law in a way that would "severely restrict the content of the Burning Man event," according to the complaint. "Specifically, the proposal would have imposed hundreds of thousands of dollars of new fees on BRC, subjected Burning Man to local law enforcement inconsistent with the terms of the BLM permit, and otherwise make the conduct of the Burning Man event contingent upon and subject to county and state laws and polices that could conflict, and in fact did conflict, with the terms of the 2012 BLM permit."
"This was not Judge Wagner's first effort to drive the Burning Man Event out of Pershing County," the lawsuit states, noting that two different commissioners have said Wagner opposed the "expressive activities occurring at the event, and was pressuring them to void the 2005 and 2011 agreements and, through the imposition of huge fees and heavy regulation, effect the content of the Burning Man event and cause BRC to seek to relocate the Burning Man event out of Pershing County."
2/3 is complete horseshit. There's never that much turnover, even this year. If it were anywhere even close to 1/2 the event would be complete shit. I'd say it would top out at maaaybe 25% tops.

Encouraging news from a Space Cowboy
So, there has been some rain today, and the temperature is actually quite nice.... Rumors of the playa surface being unbikeable are unfounded. While the city blocks are full of dunes the open playa is hard packed and easy to ride. The ride from center camp to Zoa (the old bliss dance spot) is a breeze
It's going to be a good year.

Again, sorry to re-post but if you or someone you know is in need of a ticket please feel free to PM me. So far craigslist has not been a valuable resource. The ticket is $320 but can possibly negotiate if necessary.
nobody needs tickets. everybody has extras. those who got tickets got more than they needed because they requested more than they needed without commitment "just in case". those who didn't get tickets didn't make plans to go and it's too last minute now.
ya that all makes sense unfortunately my plans have radically altered since purchasing and can no longer attend and at this point just hoping to find someone who can make use of it. I'll keep my fingers crossed.
My family and I will be on playa with our 22' windsurf board mutant vehicle "Columbia Gorge" if anyone wants rides out on the open playa. We will be at 4:45 and Foxglove in camp Clusterfu*k United. It has been a very hard journey already for us as my father passed away 2 days ago after a few months illness and our time has been spent traveling 200 miles round trip almost every day to be with him and my mom but we are all looking for some release at this years burn. Do to our time constraints we decided it would be best to join a friends camp instead of trying to do it all ourselves. We are working quite a few greeters shifts so if you come through greeters and see the windsurf board there say hello to the older lady with the white mohawk...that is me:-)
PF you are welcome to come by anytime for great vegetarian food....we will be stocked up big time and cook 3 meals a day, every day, even on playa! Anyone else is welcome too:-)
cool thanks, sounds good! hope to see you out there. is anyone planning on hitting up the moontribe party on thursday?

Yes the moontribe party + Jabba barge is a definite yes! I love that we are getting a blue moon!
Little bummed work had flooded in these last two weeks, haven't been able to prep as much (still looking for a damn bike) & still want to come up with a video project to shoot while on the playa...
Playa will provide though yes?
