Leave it to Cara to show up for 2 hours and still walk away with the Quote of the Night.

Thanks for hosting, Paul - I had a lot of fun yesterday! Also, in case anyone is interested in who played what:

A few observations on things I didn't know about before the club:

    1. That James Blake sounds unreal on vinyl. I'll have to get me a copy
    2. Dam Funk was really cool. I'd never heard him before - will have to check him out at Coachella.
    3. Sparks was awesome. I'm probably going to check them out now, even knowing what I do about their live show.
    4. xanman is pretty cool in person, surprisingly not annoying (glad you made it Joey )

I always enjoy the rampant celebrity name dropping that happens at LA Record clubs. Ya'll give me great eye rolling material.

Do we really name drop that much? I feel like everyone everywhere does it from time to time. LA and people who live in LA are an easy target.

I wonder if the fact that there are a lot of celebrities that live in LA has to do anything with it? When having a long discussion with someone who has connects to music industry about albums that are not yet out yet telling me that the new Thee Oh Sees album or the Nick Cave & Bad Seeds is great it kinda helps to reference the point that its Henry Rollins than a medicore trendy music critic like Alex Young or some promotor.Name dropping about how typical it is see Eric Wareheim would be annoying though.I was not usually paying attention to do even really notice if we are that bad.

I never used to drop celebrity names into conversations, but then Steve Albini moved in next door to me and HE does it a lot so I just kind of got in the habit.

You guys would probably get along. You both hate most things, but enjoy a good meal. He's also very fond of brutally offensive humor.

I see. Do you guys make an effort to play all the records people bring? Folks up here bring a pile knowing they'll likely only have to time to play a couple. Sometimes we have a good time "curating" a vibe on the fly, picking and choosing records based on how they fit with what has been played before.

Good stuff, I'm glad to see you guys are actively doing this. Has Kat shown up for any meetings?

Not by a long shot. This past one I brought probably 40 records. This one in particular seemed to be about getting through as many artists and, ostensibly, to be turning people on to a few things they may not have heard before.

And Kat has not made it. I contacted her about this one but the timing didn't work out.

I think we've only done it a few times, but I quite like it: not only can we listen to a lot of different music, everyone has a chance to play more of the records they brought. I will say, though, that I we (or at least I) do try to find a "flow" in the styles we play, although that was a bit more challenging this time with the Coachella theme we settled on.
