Thread: Radiohead?

  1. #1

    Default Radiohead?

I don't dislike Radiohead but have never really connected with their music. Planning to give them a more open-minded listen again before Coachella. Which album should I check out?

I would get to know King of Limbs especially well. My favorite is The Bends, but they probably will not play any of that, except for maybe "Street Spirit."

I think my order goes: (Honestly this is the best I can do. I love every album too much and cannot separate it more than this).

    1. OK Computer/In Rainbows
    2. Kid A/Hail to the Thief
    3. Amnesiac/The Bends/The King of Limbs
    4. Pablo Honey

As for playing, TKOL will be covered, some of each album. I've noticed a total lack of The Bends (no Fake Plastic Trees is bullshit) aside from Street Spirit.

they won't play anything off "Pablo Honey" or "The Bends" (except, as some have said, possibly "Street Spirit")...which is pretty effing disappointing btw as "Planet Telex," "The Bends," "Just," & "Bones" are all fantastic live songs.

anywho, my order of album preference:
    1) OK Computer
    2) In Rainbows
    3) Kid A
    4) The Bends
    5) Amnesiac/Hail To the Thief (tied)
    7) King of Limbs
    8) Pablo Honey

you can check the setlists of their recent shows here to get an idea of what tracks we'll get (although I'm holding out hope that we'll get a few more older fan favorites due to the massive festival atmosphere):
    http://www.setlist.fm/setlists/radiohead-bd6bd12.html

as for "connecting" with their music at Coachella...if you haven't been able to thus far, then it may be time to add the magical power of substances. smoke some weed, drop some 'cid, hell, even eat an e...just might do the trick for ya, haha.

If you're trying to get someone to like Radiohead the first album you should show them is OK Computer it's probably their most liked and more palatable than Kid A or Amnesiac

I listened to OK Computer and King of Limbs all the way through. Definitely liked OK Computer a lot more and has me much more interested in Radiohead. Going to check out their other albums and hopefully their set isn't too heavy on King of Limbs.

All sets on their tour so far have been very King of Limbs heavy. I doubt it will be different for the Coachella sets. But like others have said, just get yourself acquainted with the bigger picture, it will be an amazing show either way.

honestly, I've been listening to radiohead casually for fifteen years but never been a "serious" fan. I'm going to watch them probably both weekends. sometimes circumstance is as meaningful as anything else. I'm not going to know all the words or be able to name all the songs, but I know they're going to be an amazing experience, and that's what coachella is really about. I'm excited to feel something new.

This exactly. I wasn't fond of TKOL upon first hearing it. However, after I started seeing the live videos crop up, they're growing on me. Some of them are straight up amazing live. Whether or not the set is heavy with TKOL (which it will be), Radiohead will no doubt put on an amazing show as they always have.

Watch / listen to both of their from the basement sets ( both full sets available on YouTube ) probably a great representation of what kind of set they will play at coachella.

excellent point that folks forget all too often. this bit needs to be on the main page or in next year's wristband packaging stuffs.

people get so worked up and stressed out about every little detail that they forget what an incredible new experience coachella can be every time if you just let the damn thing happen.

oh, and since i decided to chime in, kid a and in rainbows are probably favesies. it changes all the time though.
it makes me forget to relax. with a heart full of holes, and a head full of dreams. with a mouthful of honey, and a fistful of bees.

Since you only have a couple of weeks I'd suggest listening to the songs they are most likely to play at Coachella. Here is a sampling but nowhere near complete list of likely songs:

    Idioteque
    Paranoid Android
    Lotus Flower
    Bloom
    15 Step
    There There
    Pyramid Song
    Little by Little
    Myxomatosis
    Airbag
    My Iron Lung

If you're getting into albums, I'd suggest starting with OK Computer and working in chronological order. Just don't forget to eventually go back and listen to The Bends. Its a great album but so different from what they are like now (and you probably won't hear too many Bends songs at Coachella)

Finally, here is my personal ranking of favorite RH albums:

    Kid A
    OK Computer
    Amnesiac
    The Bends
    In Rainbows
    King of Limbs
    Hail to the Thief
    Pablo Honey
