If you are willing to miss a few early acts, you can probably pick up a sweet deal by desperate people (remember, any remaining tickets are WORTHLESS after Saturday- and there are at least 700 people sitting on unsold tickets at this very minute.
I'm also counting on my economics training........

In economics and decision theory, loss aversion refers to people's tendency to strongly prefer avoiding losses to acquiring gains.

Sometime next week, I predict that prices will fall.

WHAAAAAATTTTT!!! The tent got upgraded! I NEED to be here now. The speakeasy last year was cool, too (but I think that was unannounced). I have to look into what the terrace is.

You also need to factor in supply and demand my friend (which many people on here have failed to do). Several things give reason as to why this year's week 1 is in such demand....

    1. Last year's demand wasn't nearly as high because the lineup was relatively weak -This years lineup is stacked with a bunch of trendy acts
    2. The natural growth of coachella attendees that fall in love and tell their friends "You HAVE to go next year!"
    3. We've now experienced two years of 'Two weekends' and people have concluded several things: a. surprises normally happen first weekend b. better weather (not to mention w2 takes place over Easter) c. there is actually grass to sit on W1!!!

I honestly don't see passes getting back down to around $500-550. If you are able to get one you are one of the lucky few...people are paying a lot of money, all while supply is dwindling-this tells you that prices will maintain if not get higher.

Supply and demand will be disrupted as soon as the shipping window closes.

I see some 147 tickets on StubHub selling for $2,000 or more. Nobody is going to buy those, and once the 2 day shipping window is closed, supply will outstrip demand, causing prices to fall to at least a level where sellers don't want to take a loss (face value). All of those overpriced tickets will have to make it to the local market (craigslist).

I would love to re-visit this next Tuesday / Wednesday. Maybe $350 is optimistic....but I would guess that $400 is not unreasonable.

I like your assessment that demand has increased, driving the prices up. The economy has recovered somewhat, and disposable income is more readily available for this sort of thing.

Damn, all these people could have got the dinner package in the Rose Garden. Could have saved a hundred bucks and got a good meal to boot.

If I had a ticket, I would have seriously considered it.

Here is a brain puzzler...... How many dinner tickets would you have to buy to ensure that you get both a ticket to the festival AND a dinner without paying more than face value?

    Hmm....actually.....this makes sense.

You buy 4 dinner packages ($2400). You sell the three tickets for $600 each ($1800). So, you paid $600 for one ticket and 4 dinner packages. Each dinner package is worth $225 ($225 x 4 = $900). You get 3 friends to chip in $75 bucks each for the dinners, and now you paid $375 for your ticket (plus a free dinner).

    Shit........why didn't I do this earlier ?

That must be from earlier today: I just checked and the cheapest ticket on stubhub is $747. Everything else is $800 and up.

I really wish people would keep that on the DL... I'm still waiting... hoping that tickets will fall at the last minute. The outstanding dinner deal is my safeguard in case there is nothing left!

I should also add that the number of tickets for sale seems to be increasing! Maybe it's my imagination (I'll pay closer attention this time) but I think the supply is greater than 779.

Not a good plan for 2 reasons:

    1) The market price still won't sink much below $600. If I'm going to pay $600 for a ticket, might as well get a meal with it.

    2) I'm sure they don't have even close to 700 meal tickets available. Once those are gone, StubHub dynamics will again rule the market.

cuz I'm hoping deep down inside that I can get a ticket for close to face. Economic recovery didn't happen for me like it did for many other people. this is the only vacation I take every year, and I'm hoping to continue the tradition without acting irresponsibly financially.

I hear you. I'm a SoCal resident, and I've been too poor to go until this year. I saved up $500 to be able to spend on the ticket, thinking that'd be plenty, and I'm getting really worried. I thought that by now the prices will have gone down. :\

i get it. i'm not trying to bust balls or anything. you just seem convinced that you won't find a ticket close to face, at least not from stubhub. you are probably right, too.

there are still a few kind-hearted fucks on this board who are slinging tickets for face. you may lick out.

some advice for the future (especially if you don't get a ticket this year): buy the pre-sale layaway ticket package. It's like a $30 monthly payment all year until the festival. that's what i usually do (obviously couldn't do it this year). it makes the price affordable, then you're not hit up with a bunch of travel and food costs the week of, too.

This is true. A little tongue action could really grease the wheels in this type of situation.
