Yablo, I'm glancing in your direction. Or maybe Tom. One of you old people likes Waits a whole lot.

    All of them.

Since I know that's not what you are looking for...

The new one, Orphans: Brawlers, Bawlers, and Bastards is phenomenal. I would start with Hearttatack and Vine, and The Heart of Saturday Night. Then Orphans and Blood Money. Then maybe Rain Dogs. By this time you will be obsessed and will no longer need recommendations, because you will want everything that is left.

Although to be fair, I probably can't be trusted. I listen to 12 or 13 of them on shuffle usually.

Rain Dogs is my favorite, after having listened thru all the albums 2 or 3 times. I'm not a huge fan of his early stuff, but I tend to drift toward more experimental music, as a rule. Rain Dogs definitely has art house moments, which i love.

If you download all of them, your computer will probably have a hernia. The man eats, sleeps, and breathes recordings.

Legitimate concern. Orphans is actually probably the most logical entry point. It covers all the bases

    Bmack's right.

One of my current favorites is "lowdown" (disc 1 song 2). Orphans is a really good showcase of what he can do.

For a beginner,I'd say Rain Dogs is good(just because that's where I began).Big Time(the live album) might also be good, being a sampler of his career less daunting the Orphans album.Swordfistrombones or Frank's Wild Years would be the next step.

I didn't go to Orphans for this very reason; too much to ingest at one time. Plus at least some of it (if not all) is b-sides and alternates and whatnot.

Plus I'm more of an album man.

I listened to Heartattack and Vine on Saturday and actually liked it quite a bit. Which for me is a big step.

And, just to be clear, this was a Hannah recommendation as well.

that's an outstanding mix, but it lacks Cemetery Polka, therefore cody needs to buy Rain Dogs too. Independent as a Hog on Ice.

There are enormous benefits to reap from Bone Machine.

Mule Variations and Small Change are also oddly missing in this suggestion list. Small Change in particular - I just fucking love that album to death.
