I am dying to see the Shins. Their new material is wonderful. It should be a moving set. I still wonder why james Mercer fired so many of the original members, but the new members more than hold their own musically, from what I have heard.

He didn't fire "so many" of the original band members, he fired all of them. I don't really give a fuck about his new band, he's no better than Billy Corgan to me at this point. And why on earth are they billed so high?

Who cares who is backing Mercer as long as it sounds the same. Its not like its Radiohead or anything.

caught a bit of their set at outside lands, not very impressive (unfortunate as I am a huge fan)
They had really bad sound at Lolla 06, but I will give them another chance depending on the schedule. Really like the new single.
Very boring performance at OSL. But we were in the back, think you have to get close to the stage for this one.
I think James Mercer is a worthless sack of shit, but I've been wanting to see Phantom Limb (among many others) live for a while now so I'll happily sit through their set.
I am wondering what the board thiks of the new Shins single released a few days ago?
haven't really listened to any of their new stuff but i love their old stuff!!
I like the new single..not that different sounding from their old stuff so I'm not quite sure what Danger Mouse's contribution was.
i lost interest around when 'wincing' came out and lost even more when i heard kevin spacey fired the band. i know its his band and his songs but marty crandall brought alot of stage presence for a keyboard player
i'll probably check em out in passing for nostalgia sake but i dont expect to watch their whole set
You just reminded me how bummed I am that Mister Heavenly won't be at Coachella.
i'm a fan of bands that make a new version of their already established sound rather than trying to do what has already worked, so the new single didn't have me going back for another listen but ill be checking out their set considering my appreciation for the previous albums
Hilarious with the Spacey reference. I completely agree with the rest of it as well. Firing all of your childhood friends from New Mexico and getting too big for your britches was a bad move for Mercer. I've seen them live quite a few times over the years ever since they used to open up for Modest Mouse in the late 90s in Seattle after Isaac discovered them, and they've always been kinda boring. Marty cracking one liners brought some comic relief to the timid seriousness of Mercer. The last album was a severe disappointment anyways in relation to their first two records. Who knows, maybe he'll surprise me and turn it around with a new cast of band mates?
they should be billed as "The Shin". I will still try to catch some of it though.

i saw the shins at the reading festival in 2004 and they were good. chutes too narrow is still one of my favourite albums of the last 10 years. the new song is shit though
Seen them four times and they are hit or miss live. My favorite set I saw of them was at Vegoose when they dressed up as Nuns and only spoke to the crowd in a screeching alien speak. They were really on at that show. The keyboardist really did add a lot to the live set so we'll see what this new crew can do. Definetly a week 1 watch just in case they tear it up and I wanna see them both weekends.
"Monklish Licker"
I am still pretty excited for this set. It would be nice if Mercer would perform some Broken Bells material as a surprise, but I doubt that will happen.
anyone else from austin? free show march 15th at auditorium shores (big field holds 25,000 i believe) M Ward and The Shins!
yep...still dont like the new 'simple' song
