Default Explosions in the Sky vs. Godspeed You! Black Emperor

They're both playing this year. If you had to choose one artist to see, which one would it be and why?

For me, it's Godspeed. I think they are so much more dynamic and emotional. And bettah

Godspeed. No contest. However, not even a concern.

    Whiskey Sour

    2 oz blended whiskey
    Juice of 1/2 lemon
    1/2 tsp powdered sugar

EITS play everywhere, I missed Godspeed's first NA reunion. Hopefully they'll be given a late set time and a projector for the full effect.

Never seen either live, but I'm afraid I'd be bored to death. I was listening to a 2012 mix today and I thought it stopped for some reason, so I looked and it was just the middle of an EITS song. Are both of their sets typically as mellow as their albums? Or are there more upbeat songs I should familiarize myself with?

Godspeed's last set in Chicago was an exercise in endurance. I wasn't able to make it, but apparently they played a 2.5+ hour set.
With set times like that in such an oddly macho-while-remaining-mellow-and-sensitive genre, they make EITS look like the Justin Bieber of post-rock.
But the Justin Bieber of post rock would probably be, I dunno, the Album Leaf or something.
That being said, I like both bands.

EITS, Godspeed seems like they might be a little boring live, at least for me. But I intend to at least check them both out for a bit.

I've listened to more EitS, but I gotta see some Godspeed for the sake of it.

I'm still struggling with the "I really like Explosions, but Godspeed does nothing for me" comments I've been hearing.

I just haven't listened to 'em enough to be honest. Their lack of touring doesn't help either.

Can't believe people are voting for explosions. I remember their show just because of how boring it was. I haven't seen Godspeed live though.

Both are great live, in different ways. Godspeed is a mesmerizing experience live. Explosions could be more exciting to some because of the lack of drones and noise GYBE like to implement. IMO though GYBE is more rewarding overall.

Mono is better live than Explosions in the Sky.

    I can't wait to see Godspeed/Mogwai this Spring/Summer.

Thought I would like EITS at Treasure Island, but opted to just go home instead half way through their set. Still gonna give Godspeed the benefit of the doubt.

    I much prefer Godspeed. Reasons:

    - The voice samples they use in their earlier works ('Blaise Baily Finnegan III', etc)
    - The string instruments, which add a lot of depth to the music
    - Their album artwork, and the fact that they're press-shy add a bit of mystery to who these guys really are
We're here to play some Mississippi Delta Blues. We're in a horrible depression, and I gotta admit - we're starting to like it.
