2012 Additons Request Thread

Since it's "sold out" they know what kind of money they are working with. Adding acts after the fact would only build more hype especially for next year. In a business sense I think it's smart to add acts. The line-up isn't as strong as last year's but with TWO weekends now... the money is there. They have room to add even if it's not an identical line-up.

I only put "sold out" in quote marks due to the whole credit card / error / decline debacle that I (and a few hundred people?) were victim of. After 30 hours, a day off my life, some hair loss and 1.5hrs on hold, Front Gate sold me a ticket.

I agree that if AEG has already budgeted to add some more acts, it makes sense from a business and PR standpoint. Staggered, late-adds generate more PR and buzz for the event in the coming weeks and adds future value to the Coachella brand. And while they've had a few very good years, they're not quite Glastonbury yet with full sell-outs of all passes before a lineup is even announced. So if they're known for some great late adds, even more people will have faith that Coachella will always have a great lineup and sometimes surprise you, so you'd better get those tickets. Or I'm just over-thinking this. Lots of great suggestions in this thread. I'm surprised about James Blake being missing as well. Seemed like an obvious one.

What more buzz could they possibly need? They sold out 2 Coachellas in three hours (more like minutes because most people who logged into FG past 10:05 did not get a ticket). The stories are everywhere. Facebook page is blowing up all year. They have the whole notoriety thing down. They don't need to throw in Prince with ten days to go ever again (And no one is a more viable candidate for the Portishead bump-off than The Black Keys).

That pretty space next to Avicii has been tantalizing me since the poster came out.

In reality, although I wouldn't bet on it, there is no reason GV wouldn't have ads this year. Sure, it's sold out, but this could easily be the year that sets Coachella at the undisputed top of the major four festivals this year. Dre/Snoop is a huge get that is highly unlikely to tour or appear at other festivals, Radiohead is a huge get that will probably be selective in festivals they play, ATDI/Refused I could easily see avoiding other festivals, and as much as the board hates them, the SHM/Guetta/Justice combination is comparable to a set of EDC headliners. Does anybody realistically see Bonnarroo or ACL topping this lineup this year? Or even coming close? I think everybody else is going to pale in comparison.

At this point, flush with cash and an instant sellout, AND with a year where there is no Glastonbury, I can see GV adding a couple other rare gets to this lineup just to cement their status in the world of music festivals. It would be a major rub in other festival's faces and only make this lineup seem bigger. Do I think it's a guarantee? Not at all. But to say that since it's sold out they won't be adding anybody is missing the point.

Here's the thing. There IS a reason to make a pleasing lineup for everyone. There IS a reason for adds:


When you create a brand, you don't discontinue doing what made your brand great just because it becomes successful. If you discontinue doing what made you successful in the first place, you guarantee failure in the future. They have a long term contract with Indio...they want this thing to continue for awhile. The only way to do guarantee continued success is to continue to "bring it".
