Ok you're ridiculous...I am super excited for Dre and Snoop (ATDI too) but they won't be an hour late because they are probably getting paid the most of the three headliners, they are closing out the fest, and people have been waiting way too long for them to not be professional. You shouldn't be ok with that either.
No, he is correct. Snoop is known for not showing up on time for music festivals, regardless of his billing. I believe he was over an hour late at Bonnaroo '09 and was about an hour late at OC Fest last year. I wouldn't doubt Dre & Snoop starting an hour late and going about an hour past curfew.
I would hope GV contracts that Snoop and Dre's payment is conditioned on performance in a timely manner. Furthermore, they should contract remedies in case they do arrive late for not only breach but also damages to festival reputation.
If that was part of the contract, Dre & Snoop wouldn't have signed it.
I think at OC Fest last year, Snoop said something along the lines of "Who do they think they are telling me I'm late? I'm Snoop Dogg. I show up exactly when I intend to!" or something to the affect.
Hard to determine the leverage in the negotiations by only speculating but Coachella is a bigger name to protect and there is also the expensive curfew to deal with . I would also think they are getting a much better payday for Coachella v. OC Fest to make it worthwhile to accept such clause but I could be very wrong.
Well, he DOES operate on CP Time
5/11/12 - Cloud Cult - El Rey // 5/23/13 & 5/24/13 - Boris - Echoplex // 6/7/13 + 6/8/13 - Jubilee Music Festival
6/9/13 - Devo/GZA - Natural History Museum // 6/11/13 - Bjork - Hollywood Bowl // 6/21/13-6/23/13 - Solid Sound Music Festival - MASS MOCA

Hmm that is pretty interesting. I just hope it doesn't cut in to the amount of play time they have. I am now thinking thats the big payment rumor thing if it was true.
No way Dre or Snoop have any issue paying a curfew fine if they do show up substantially late. I don't know the specifics of the fine but I'd have to imagine unless it was outrageously high there's no way Dre cuts his comeback performance short to save some money. This show is huge for him and he's bound to have some tricks up his sleeve.
Damn...may have to redact that comment then. 600k for an hour is insane, but I guess you have to deter pretty loaded people.
No way they are getting more than Radiohead.
Wasn't the over-curfew paid in 2009 for Cure/McCartney $1,000/minute? Paid by GV and not the acts. Other venues raise rates after 10 minutes past curfew etc.
Flaming Lips had the plug pulled on them at toronto vFest (2006?). AXl Rose had some fun at Reading/Leeds when he showed up 30 minutes later for a festival with a strict curfew.

I have a sneaking suspicion that GV knows what the fuck they're doing and will give Dre and Snoop more than enough time, factoring in CPT.
Damages to a "festival's reputation" are too speculative to be allowed for in a liquidated damages clause. If the remedies that are contracted for are deemed to be too steep by a court, and the court therefore views the contracted remedies to be a "penalty," the court will throw out the clause.

warning: boring legal discussion
Liquidated damages clauses are permitted for damages that are hard to forecast at time of contract AND if it is a reasonable forecast. In California, liquidated damages are presumed valid unless found unreasonable or a punishment. You are correct that damages to festival's reputation may be speculative but that does not necessarily make it unreasonable or a penalty. Damages to goodwill has been upheld as reasonable in leasing context and likewise would be used to rebut any argument against such provision.
Edit: Hypothetically, if such provision was agreed upon and was litigated, GV would have more resources to get a more"favorable settlement" which likely would be a loss to both parties and a win for the attorneys.

i just can't wait to see the number of black escalades that roll up backstage. jay-z and beyonce had at least 7 with them. gonna be nuts.
they set up huge artist compounds right behind the main stage for the top tier bands. make it nice enough and they can have dre and snoop chillin backstage hours before their scheduled time.
If they do show up late I can guarantee that will not be replicated weekend 2.
maybe that's what the 125K per Sunday is going towards. The curfew overage charges.
Over/under on how many blunts Snoop will have smoked before the set?
Jeff Goldblum for main stage 2012.
2011 Perfectchella.
MMMhhhmm Iheard that.
