Well, music comes with a lot more baggage than simply what you hear with your ears. There's emotional content, social context, lyrics, form, rhythm, etc. I imagine they're just trying to differentiate between such things.
I still don't understand what you might propose people use instead of the term sonically.

Every one of the examples you gave seemed appropriate in context and didn't seem to have any airs of pretension. You use "musically" when you're talking about composition and it's OK to say "sonically" when talking about what it generally SOUNDS like. In that context it's actually difficult to find a replacement for it. I guess you could say "soundwise" if you're lazy.
You don't need to be an audio engineer to use the word. You just have to speak English.
I think you saw the word sonic rape your father when you were about 5 years old and this is how the blocked memory is manifesting itself in your personality.

It's like asking someone what he or she thinks of a painting and the reply is "Visually, I think it's stunning." Ah - visually. As opposed to how rough the surface is or how cold it is. It's just unnecessary and so doesn't need a replacement. You could delete the word "sonically" from all those examples and it wouldn't change the meaning of any of them - because it's already understood you are talking about sound. Sonic works better as an adjective - sonic assault, sonic boom, etc. What is it modifying as an adverb - the act of hearing? Or maybe it's modifying/describing part of the total experience and adds context like SoulDischarge said (but then I would expect something about the non-sonic part of the experience too.)
I think I'm going to use aurally instead, as in "You would probably make more sense to me aurally."
"heard"
"just saying"
"real talk"
"swag"

Let it go. Do you see how ridiculous you're being? In your example, "sonically" is pretty much the exact replacement for "visually" when referring to a sound rather than a sight. One is talking about the quality of the sight alone (without reference to the meaning) and the other is talking about the SOUND alone. You could have the most beautifully composed piece of music ever made, lyrically and compositionally, but SONICALLY it sounds like shit. get over it.
It's just what the fucking word means. Calling out people for using the word is just putting a big dunce cap on your head.

"Tebow"
Thanks jackstraw! "sonically it sounds like shit" is perfect.
You think you're being clever, but your inability to understand (and you dont') the difference between sonically and "sounds" in this context is shameful on a music message board.
sure "sonically it's shit" might be a more economical way to say it, but you would rather remove the wrong word, again, because you don't understand it.
