Aaron Martin's Worried About the Fire is great... and for Dag I'd recommend Jasper TX - A Voice From Dead Radio.

I liked Cloud Nothings better when they were called Mudhoney.

Why this was fork'd is beyond me. The only thing I can think of is that they booked them for their fest.

Mudhoney? I think you're listening with broken ears. I hear Jawbox, some Nation of Ulysses in the guitar sound, but not really any grunge.

To be fair, he thinks that anyone who sings in falsetto is trying to sound like Prince. :P

Love this Chairlift album. It's like Kate Bush fronting Tears for Fears. Or something:

It's almost right place right time syndrome, but there are definitely 5 incredible songs and 3 that are at least very good.

I listened to it twice in a row, and "fall in" several times on its own. It's pretty perfect for me at the moment. i'll be listening to it a bunch at work tomorrow.

Seriously though, does anyone hear Mudhoney?

Drew, did you download the right album? Not that I think you'd enjoy it, I'm just baffled.

Holy shit....okay, maybe it was just the first song that set the Mudhoney tone for me. But, the rest of it is your grab-bag 90's sound, which I'm just tired of (well, with the exception of female lead vocal 90's rehash, e.g. Wild Flag). I listened to it the day it leaked and then deleted it. Because of your praise, Bryan, I gave it another try yesterday. It just sounds stale...to me. Big whoop.

This reminds me of that Big Troubles album a couple/few years back that so many cooed over when it came out, which was never to be heard from again (how many people's best-of list did it end up on? not many, if any). This Cloud Nothings has all the makings of a similar forgotten fate come year-end.

Hmmm I loved both Big Troubles' 2010 and 2011 albums. They were great opening for Real Estate a couple months ago. i actually see big things for those guys.

I happened to stumble on this the other day, and it really blew me away. It's just concise garage rock with really brilliant songwriting. It could be what you guys were saying with the Cloud Nothings (another album I really love), how this is just the right time for something like this to hit me, but it hit hard. They're called Spirit Night. You can get their album, One Man Houses from their Bandcamp page in the pay-what-you-want format. It's definitely worth checking out. It's definitely the favorite release I have listened to so far in this short year.

Willamette have a new release out, "Always in Postscript". It is very good. For those of you who liked "Echo Park", highly recommended.

I keep hearing about First Aid Kit, so I checked out their new album. It's not bad, but didn't really hold my attention for very long and was pretty one note. In fact, I favor those two Lana Del Rey singles more than anything on this album. Real talk.

Matthew Dear - Headcage EP is sort of middle of the road funky synth jams that don't really evoke too much similarity to Black City, and there are some weird territorial explorations going on, but like every single Matthew Dear release I feel like it needs multiple listens before it will situate itself in a space where it can be more appropriately judged. Which makes me like the title of the EP all that more. That said, "In the Middle (I Met You There)" is instantly delightful.

Miike Snow, the trio of superproducers Bloodshy & Avant (Christian Karlsson and Pontus Winnberg) and Andrew Wyatt will release their new album Happy to You March 27 via Downtown/Universal Republic. It includes a guest appearance from fellow Swede Lykke Li on a track called "Black Tin Box".

    Happy to You:
    01 Enter the Jokers Lair
    02 The Wave
    03 Devilís Work
    04 Vase
    05 God Help This Divorce
06 Bavarian #1 (Say You Will)
    07 Pretender
    08 Archipelago
09 Black Tin Box [ft. Lykke Li]
    10 Paddling Out

Pretty excited for this followup. Devil's Work is good and I love Paddling Out. The new one with Lykke Li is interesting but I'm not sure if I like it...

If "Emmylou" doesn't warm your heart, then... well, I guess there is a good chance you don't like heart warming folk songs.

I am really enjoying the Porcelain Raft album. Sort of dreamy, sorta melancholy. It's pleasant, and suits my current mood.
