Lucifer makes me want to be lost in reality. If I did have plans to have steak with my dad a couple weeks ago I would of caught their Echoplex set.

^ They play around LA all the time, so I'm sure you'll have a chance again sometime soon.

The new LindstrÝm Smallhans is much, much better than Six Cups... from earlier in the year. It's maybe not as strong as Where You Go... or Feedelity..., but I'm just glad he got that odd experimentation out of his system and got back to what he does best.

Ooh! Forgot about Smallhans though I did listen to some tracks when they were streaming on RA.

I also haven't listened to Andy Stott yet....gahhh so much to do.

The Andy Sott should be at the very top of your queue, especially if you enjoyed the two EPs from last year - such a great album.

It is (as well as Smallhans), although it was posted a few weeks ago and may need to be re-upped.

Has anyone else listened to Peter Buck's solo album yet? I was expecting lots of R.E.M.-style jingle-jangle, but it's a surprisingly (and admirably) wonky album, with some odd experiments that come out of left field. There isn't much of a thread tying the songs together, but I kinda like the loose, ramshackle nature of it. There's a little rock, a little surf music, some country-tinged stuff, and a kick-ass number featuring Corin Tucker on vocals. It's certainly not a major work (no one will be ranking it with R.E.M.'s best stuff), but as one-off albums go, it's pretty fun.

I have no idea who Lindstrom is but I heard "Raakost" on KCRW a couple months ago and absolutely loved it.

So I keep coming back to the Wild Nothing album, very clean harmonies/melodies and just a good vibe. Could easily see them in an early afternoon tent set at chella this year. They remind me of Real Estate, with synths.

I dig them. They seem like a poor man's Beach House though IMO.

They were nice opening for The Tallest Man on Earth too.

Wild Nothing seems much more dream pop/goth-influenced than Beach House to me. I think i like them more than Beach House too. I don't love them, but I never would have eevn compared them to Beach House or Real Estate in the first place.

I think this is an under-the-radar great album, too. A fully-realized and mature record.

To the idea that they or Beach House may be more/less dream pop. I think they are both broadly dream pop, but Beach House is something of a different case simply because of the amount of organ involved in the songwriting, which seems somewhat novel for the genre, and least in its classic form.

For what it's worth (and to stray from all the genre talk I started), I think Wild Nothing's first album is stronger, but the new one will probably grow on me with more listens.

I never would have thought to compare Real Estate with Wild Nothing. We all hear different things, to each their own, etc. I suppose.

It's not really a direct comparison. But I can hear similarities in their vibe/tone... especially the guitar. These two songs kinda

obviously the vocals are very different. But I think Wild Nothing could easily fill that spot that Real Estate held last year at Chella.

I haven't heard either in its entirety, but what I have caught from the Naomi Punk and Silent Servant records has been really, really good.

For however ridiculous and over-the-top Sufjan's Christmas songs can be, Silver and Gold is just so much fun to listen to. This will be more than enough to keep me cheery through Christmas.

So the new Raime album, Quarter Turns Over A Living Line, continues their trend of living up to the name of their record label, Blackest Ever Black. Ostensibly, it could be considered techno, but it could equally be considered industrial, noise, and dark ambient. It's dark and foreboding and ripe with atmosphere tied to some heavy, sluggish rhythms. Upon first listen, I can easily recommend this to people who like Shackleton and Demdike Stare, although it's probably even more austere than those acts.
