I wrote a decent sized review trashing the new Lindstrom. I don't know when/if it'll post. The site I write for seems to be pretty awful at updating. Such a disappointment.

The Todd Terje ep kind of just slipped through my ears on first listen, but it was pleasant while doing so. The Of Montreal is going to require some further attention to make sense of. I liked the harder edged psych stuff in some spots but others it felt kind of plodding. "The Past Is A Grotesque Animal" was fucking great, but I think it was a fluke amongst long Of Montreal songs having any focus. Keep it together Barnes.

I also came here to say that I haven't done very much 2012 listening yet, but that the new Goth-Trad album New Epoch is impressive on many levels.

Thanks for the rec...I listened to it last night and enjoyed it quite a bit.

Two bands I'd suggest with 2012 releases are Tribes and Dry The River. Both up and coming UK bands with huge futures.

Tribes just released their album 'Baby. It's fantastic. Songs in particular I'd recommend are 'Himalaya', 'We Were Children' & 'Sappho'.

Dry The River's album is out at the start of March and it's called 'Shallow Bed'. 'No Rest' & 'Weights and Measures' are current favourites that will most likely make their debut album.

The new Miike Snow is meh.

And so far, Sleigh Bells chose to go in a more polished/produced sound. I dont think it works in their favor.

The demos from the forthcoming Shearwater are really nice (albeit rough, since they are demos). They are pretty much typical fare from them, so if you are a fan they are worth checking out.

The new Crippled Black Phoenix is pretty damn good, though extremely bloated with filler at 80 minutes running time. It retains the heavy classic rock fused with post rock sound from previous releases, and gets a bit darker at times. It could be trimmed down to 50 minutes and be really great though, as there are some killer songs on it.

I listened to the Macabees album and my first impression was that i liked it a lot, but I need to listen to it again.

my favorite albums this year so far are expansive post-rock influenced black metal albums - Alcest's Les Voyages De L'Âme, TotorRo's All Glory To John Baltor, and the untitled Bréag Naofa album.

Also, Polica's debut is really terrific, especially if you like Gayngs.

I think it's disgraceful the way people like you neglect the importance on non-sounds in the appreciation of sonic stimuli. It should be "Tell Us About 2012 Undefined Amorphous Auditory Experiences As Transmitted Via An Infinite Range Of Media."

I agree, I think this is the first record to be released in 2012 that I'm really digging and it has been getting constant rotation. The record also sports a pretty all-star cast of contributors...

I've only listened to two 2012 albums so far, Sharon Van Etten's and Goth-Trad's. I enjoyed both of them quite a bit. I'm pretty partial to female vocalists for some reason, so I may have a bias, but Van Etten isn't the classic boring singer-songwriter. I think almost all of her songs on that album have interesting structure to them. Thank you, Chris and Cara, for the recommendations.

This weekend, the Master Class at Slamdance Festival featured Coffee w/ Neil Young & Jonathan Demme for their new film Journeys.

A report from the coffee with Neil and Jonathan event by Bob & Kim C. reveals a stunning announcement...

... Neil Young has been recording with Crazy Horse . One album is complete and they are working on another.
No mention of content or time table.

Neil did talk about a group of Americana songs that he had recorded as well with a youth choir...and the Horse. When he spoke of recording with Crazy Horse again "the crowd erupted in applause".

Yeah, good description of the Porcelain Raft. In addition to the MBV hints, I also hear hints of Oasis (in a good way). I get a feeling this one is going to really grow on me.

If you liked 90s emo, back when emo was good, you may very well love Cloud Nothings' Attack on Memory. It's an 8 song blast of trebly, scratching guitars, guttural yells, melodic vocal parts and some wicked buildups. It's also very good.

I was thinking this last night. Some of the stuff reminds me of Far. Really digging it.
