It took a bit to actually put on a band called PS I Love You (makes a band name like Wu Lyf look fucking genius in comparison), but you had my interest with the loud and fuzzed out description. I listened to 2 or 3 songs, and really liked what was going on musically. The vocals/delivery are a bit tough for me to get into, though. The way he has that squeal at the end of his words is really annoying, I do plan on listening to the album as a whole to get a better feel for it though.

I'm glad you gave them a chance! I agree that the vocals can take a little getting used to, but I think they work when paired with the kind of music they make. What really made this band click for me was seeing them live; aside from the drumming, Paul does everything else himself - vocals, guitar, and playing the bass with some kind of gigantic electronic bass keyboard - all at the same time. It's up on ? (big thanks for the invite, IceyHotshot!), so hopefully you'll give it a few more listens.

I have a hard time with that band name considering the insanely schmaltzy movie an ex-girlfriend made me sit through that it's named after, but apparently I should check them out.

This is seriously the most tragic thing about the band - they might as well have called themselves The Rom-Coms.

EL-P - Cancer For Cure Very surprising album, the beats are interesting and I love the list of guest artists. Danny Brown has an awesome track on here.

I gave this one a spin the other night and was pleasantly surprised at how varied and inventive the production is. I was doing some work at the time so I didn't pay very close attention to the lyrics, but his flow sounds great and I agree that the Danny Brown/Mr. Muthafuckin Exquire track slays.

Future Sound of London fans: Environments IV is something I suggest you download. It's pretty much par for the course when comparing to the other Environments releases, but that's far from a bad thing. These guys hardly disappoint. Very good album.

It isn't common for an album to stand out after one listen but Anenon - Inner Hue has. It's very melodic and beautiful. I'm looking forward to giving it a listen when I'm not at work so I can pay better attention.

Also, I know I've said it before, but I'd be very, very surprised if another album comes out this year that has as strong of a finish as the new Beach House album does with Irene. That song is so completely wonderful, it's like a microcosm of everything I love about the band boiled down into one song. And the secret track is really amazing as well.

Has anyone listened to this JMSN album? Weird stuff. At first it felt like he was really ripping off the Weeknd/Frank Ocean vocal vibes but the deeper I got into the album the more I dug it. Mulholland Drive samples, atmospheric beats, and a strange, high voice similar to those R&B singers I mentioned. I think this album does stand on its own, though I'll have to listen to it more to make the final decision. Reminds me of a little Justin Timberlake as well.

Niki & The Dove - Instinct is fucking fantastic.

They obviously sound a lot like The Knife - only if "Heartbeats" was the most challenging and antipop track The Knife had.

It's like The Knife made a Cyndi Lauper & Prince cover album.

"Under The Bridge" is both a great, epic closer and is now my favorite song entitled "Under The Bridge."

Niki & The Dove is the Swedish Electropop missing link between The Knife and Robyn.

FUCKING YES YES YES. I immediately thought of The Knife/Fever Ray when listening to that album, but with a heavy "All Hour Cymbals"-era Yeasayer sound as well. I liked your other comparisons, too. Such a fantastic album.

All overrated. Most likely because people are so damn hungry for new music from The Knife. I think they sound more like Kate Bush with some Little Dragon at times. Again, this will be forgotten come year-end.

And I don't think there's anything wrong with that. If it gives people enjoyment now, great. Not everything has to be some masterpiece that makes a big dent in the music consciousness. I'm only four songs on and I'm liking it. It's probably disposable, but there are some fun jams so far. "The Drummer" sounds similar to something Prince could have done in the 80's. While I was listening to that song, all could see was The Revolution up on stage.

I will concede that as an entire cohesive piece, the Niki & The Dove album is not absolutely remarkable, but it has some fucking amazing tracks on it (albeit some of the best are ones that were released as singles well before the album came out), especially The Drummer, DJ Ease My Mind, and Under The Bridges, that i have already been listening to over and over again and don't feel like they're disposable. I definitely understand the influences and musical similarities, but I can surely say my enjoyment of the album does not stem from some subconscious need to fill of a void. I do genuinely really like the album a lot and it's in my top 10 of the year so far for sure. "Overrated" by those of us that really like it or not, I think it best to not persuade people not to listen to it, because we're all coming from an earnest place. I'm not aware of any artificial effort to inflate the album with hype, everyone on this board has been listening only because of word of mouth and have all been having individual reactions.

Just had to get that off my chest as I feel like Drew's comments were a bit condescending to the people that are really liking the record, and unfair to artists that are putting more into their work than I feel he is giving them credit for.

The 4 track flow from "Last Night"->"Somebody"->"Love To The Test"->"DJ, Ease My Mind" make the Niki & The Dove album for me. Also, I always skip the first two songs... they do nothing for me. As a whole, the album is good, not great, but the middle section is absolutely fantastic.

Saw these guys Tallhart opening for Say Anything @HOB in San Diego last week and really enjoyed their set. Bought their EP off iTunes for $5. Here's one of my favorite tracks.



They just came out with their first full length album. Haven't listed to it yet though...

Yeah it's great. "Get A Job" is party time. And there's a track with "Lost" in the name that is also a serious jam.

Get a Job is my favorite track so far. It's a slight departure for them, but holy shit is it awesome. This album will probably win the "Most likely to make me start dancing immediately" award of 2012.
