The new Flaming Lips is totally bizarre and ridiculous, but I love it. "2012 (You Must Be Upgraded)" is one of the best songs of the year so far and "You, Man? Human???" features the insane ramblings of Nick Cave, making it a stand out track. If you haven't listened to it yet, I highly recomend it.

Do you recall which new songs they played at Coachella? The Money Store is definitely more of a stand out but I can't recall which specific songs they played.

Started eating mushrooms at the beginning of their set... so not at all.

Back to the music talk though... Carter Tutti Void Transverse is probably my second favorite release this year after a couple plays. Can we get a set from them at ATP, please?

The new Norah Jones, Little Broken Hearts, sounds a lot like a Broken Bells album, just with Norah Jones singing instead of James Mercer. Maybe that, combined with the sound/vibe of the Rome release. I'm not sure this is a bad thing, but it's certainly not the "weird" or whatever album that it was being touted as. It's enjoyable on first listen. I would be happy with an Outside Lands set of (mostly) this material.

I can't remember all the new songs played (seemed like there were quite a few), but "I've Seen Footage" was by far the highlight. Tent was going OFF weekend 1 when it was cool outside, weekend 2's crowd was a bit more subdued because of the heat.

FUCK. Thank you so much for posting this. I can't not look into an album when someone praises it so highly, and I'm glad I did. The first listen didn't do much for me, but I've spun it three times now and I'm totally in love as well. It's instantly shooting to my top albums of 2012 list.

Love this band. New album is great.

The unreleased songs/extra disc from the Mermaid Ave box set is worth a listen. There's some quality stuff on there, and works well as an album itself.

This Paco Sala record, "Ro-Me-Ro" on digitalis is really great so far.

    Didn't expect so much bass.

The new Torche album fucking rocks. Dude writes great pop songs. If you liked Meanderthal, you'll like this one. They sound like they are capable of crossing over to the Live 105's of the world with tunes like "Kicking", which is awesome. We need more music in mainstream circles like that.

I checked out Death Grips again after everyone and their mother whose taste I respect told me to give them another chance despite not liking their mixtape or whatever it was that was released awhile back. I like what I've heard from the album quite a bit. I forget who they conflicted with at Coachella, but I'm bummed I missed them.

New Joyce Manor is way spastic and trying to do loads more then their first album, but this time in 13 minutes instead of 18. Lots of win.

I am enjoying The Money Store more than Exmilitary so far but I haven't jumped on actually buying it yet. Just not what I am in the mood for. Currently I my 3 major rotation items are Sleep Party People, Paco Sala, and everything from Slugabed. Can't wait for the Slugabed album.

I decided to sleep on getting Heady Fwends (Flaming Lips) thinking it wouldn't be impossible to get in OKC. Starting to think I might regret that since it is apparently currently sold out locally. There's a ton of good music on that album.

Jack White's album is solid front to back.

Orbital's Wonky is finally on Spotify. It's alright, but doesn't match their old stuff. Still there are a few songs off that album that I really enjoy particularly Straight Sun, Distractions, and Where Is It Going?

Dweller On The Threshold's self-titled record is something else. Haunting, meloncholic acoustic tracks mixed with noisy, thrashing hardcore numbers and combinations of the two that build and build into panicking explosions of noise. Really nice stuff.
EDIT: There's an extreme Kurt Vile influence in some of these tracks upon further review.

    EDIT: Here's some nice examples:

You can check it out and pay what you want for it here:

Late as fuck to the party on this, but I fully back that statement. They were so upset about losing all of their equipment, but upon seeing the massive crowd they got super pumped and put on a fucking blast of a show. I managed to get right up front and people were going absolutely apeshit for them. Great, great set.

This is still one of my favorite concert pictures I've ever taken:

Oh, and just so I don't completely derail this thread, that new song of theirs is indeed awesome. Really excited to hear the entire album!

Oh my god. I just started the new Japandroids album and I can confidently say this is the best album I have heard this year. Its loud, energetic, and the sound is so big it could fill up a stadium. If I could describe it in one word, I would use "anthemic."

"Well shit" is right. This album is far and beyond the best album I have listened to this year. I liked Post-Nothing, but didn't love it like a lot of others here. I heard their single and was very impressed and had high hopes for the album... but it exceeded my expectations to a level I didn't think was possible. Everyone should listen to this album now. Drop everything and just listen to it dammit.

    High praise.

Best Coast's The Only Place is really fucking good. Jon Brion produced it and gone is the is the lo fi fuzzy retro sound in favor of a much fuller, richer, cleaner recording and mix. The same simple pop sensibilities are in place, but everything is ramped up. It's more textured and varied, and the song writing is sharper and more focused. The playing in general, well as Beth's voice, is much stronger and confident, and the lyrics, while still simple are much more mature as well.

Basically, it's everything a really good second album should be - take everything that made the first album good and just make them a lot better.

So, I'm trying to catch up and have been listening to some stuff... Attack on Memory might be my favorite record so far and is making Cloud Nothings one of my favorites as well. good stuff. Also, Polica or however you do the accent is pretty cool pop stuff. I know why Justin Vernon loves them so much now. The Death Grips is very good compared to ex-military which I didn't find bad, just not that easy of a listen per say. But Money Store is a pretty solid album and I really want to see them live now.
