I'm kind of excited to put on the new Muse record after hearing how much hate everyone has for it. With these expectations I might actually like it. I'm a sucker for those best worst type of albums. Here goes.

Hey Spooks, according to Fact Mag, mono LPs will be released in 2013. Doesn't specify whether as part of a box or individually.

Finally threw on my copy of Shields...it sounds like it was cut completely wrong...it randomly sounds like it is picking up to 45rpm, goes back to 33, rinse and repeat...is this how the album is supposed to sound?

I think I just got a bad copy. Need to email Insound now, this is completely bizarre. I've tested other records too to make sure it wasn't my turntable and they all play at the proper speed.

Well, this is a thing that is weird: http://www.factmag.com/2012/09/27/my...e-dream-ended/

One of the songs actually sounds like some oddball Aphex Twin top 40 experiment

Based on a series of Facebook posts today, I have a strong feeling we'll be able to listen to the new Death Grips album starting tonight at midnight. I really have no idea how they can top The Money Store but I'm definitely excited to hear what's next.

    :')

This statement just made my homework a lot more difficult to focus on.

Death Grips just posted their new record, in it's entirety, on their soundcloud.

Better yet the entire thing is available for download on their website. 5 tracks in I think this is their best work yet.

I'm only 3 songs in, but I'm loving it so far. Could do without the cover though.

I wonder what the symbolism behind the ethnicity of the cock represents.

i think it was just about the album art being a big cock... their other idea was having a big fart

It's still up on Soundcloud though.

And the listening stats for it on Soundcloud are pretty funny. Each song has a pretty large number of listeners who bailed after the track prior.

I like the album, but they are starting to sound pretty similar to me. I need to give it some time.

the cynic in me is skeptical that the death grips thing is just marketing. that said, if bullshit marketing gets more albums released under an attribution only CC license, count me in.

edit: I guess I'm not alone in this... but someone actually decided to back it up with a quick and dirty, but logical, examination of the events http://www.imposemagazine.com/bytes/deathgripsgate the thing that has me most skeptical is that you can indeed still stream on soundcloud, who are pretty notorious for honoring C&Ds with swiftness.

Yeah, it just seems like the kind of thing Death Grips would do to create hype.

What do y'all think of the Ultraista album? I've only listened once but so far the vocals ruin it for me. I think they sound awful.

I felt the same way about it being more a publicity stunt than anything (especially because all the press around The Money Store said this one would be out in October), and also came to a similar conclusion that the author did: who fucking cares, we just got another free Death Grips album.

I've listened to it about 5 times now, and while not as strong top to bottom as The Money Store it did nothing to sway me in thinking that these guys are doing something really fucking cool and original. Excuse the analogy, but I get the impression that NO LOVE DEEP WEB is to Amnesiac as The Money Store is to Kid A; most of the tracks were probably conceived/fleshed out at the same time, but some certainly were a better fit thematically than others. For example, "Black Dice" and "Whammy" could have easily fit in on their last album, where tracks like "World of Dogs" and "Deep Web" would have disrupted its flow. I feel like "Come up and get me" could essentially function as a mission statement from the band and a song I would play for someone who hadn't heard them before, and the final run of "Pop"-->"Bass rattles..."-->"Artificial death..." is a fantastic way to close things out.

Bryan, I agree that they can sound a bit repetitive, but I think that's a function of Ride's "flow" not really changing much from track to track. I think he shows a bit more range in terms of delivery here (haha, funny to say that in regards to this band), but the really innovative part of the band is seen in the production - they're really pushing themselves to explore their own musical aesthetic, and I've been extremely impressed with the variety of sounds they've been able to create over three albums.

The more I listen to the new Tame Impala, Flying Lotus, and How to Dress Well, the higher and higher they climb my list. What a great year it's been

The new album Arbors from Arctic Sleep is out now. They are kind of like a mixture of Hum, Jesu, and Isis. Really fucking good stuff. You can stream the whole thing on their soundcloud page: http://arcticsleep.bandcamp.com/album/arbors

Loving releases by the Spyrals and also Sam Flax. Two lo-fi batches of psychy goodness. Highly recommended.
