holy shit - those both sounds like amazing shows. Zola is my favorite female singer right now. did you hear Lynch's remix of In Your Nature?

I was really disappointed with the latest Zola Jesus. Also, glad Cloud Nothings is getting good reviews. They're playing here next month and I was thinking about going.

Totally a great continuation of the best 90s/early 2000s emo stuff. Doesn't play up the lame aspects, just the really vicious tones, searching lyrics and great vocals.

Really like the Gangrene album on first listen... Gonjasufi was good, but I'll have to play it again. Porcelain Raft had some cool moments.

I'm baffled Mr. Dream aren't better known. I've been listening to them for months and assumed they got recognition along the same lines as Yuck.

It's really different than last years, IMO. I thought it sucked and wrote about it earlier in the thread, but I was drunk when I listened to it.

Really? I think the vocals are pretty good, very unrefined in a good way. I'm not a fan of "pretty" voices for the most part though. I like my vocalists a little rough around the edges.

EDIT: and yes, I think it's very different from the last one, too.

Yeah, the vocals are a huge part of the draw for me! The Far reference was spot on, and i also get a huge Lifetime vibe from this album.

Already this song is a major repeater for me...

Holy shit... From the Mouth of the Sun - Woven Tide is huuuge. If you dug Winged Victory of the Sullen (and other ambient/noise stuff) definitely check this out. Wow, loving it.

If you've never really listened to it before, I can see why the vocals would bother you. They're typically the thing that would be most likely to turn people off upon first listen, but the more you listen and learn about it, it becomes endearing.

And that there's an entirely different representation of the word than the '90s version we're talking about.

But yeah, it had 20+ years of being associated with very good music before someone, probably someone who writes for Spin, decided to use the moniker for something completely different and ruined everything.

EDIT: it should be noted that with a lot of these bands, emo and post-hardcore are somewhat interchangeable terms.
