Spooks, it's not that this subject is not deserving of its own thread.

It's just that you'd have much better luck getting people to discuss this topic on a message board that actually has users that live in NYC rather than this message board that has, oh, maybe 3 users who live in NYC?

    Enjoy the show.

For Cutterbutter who saw Blink 182 more than once in year 2011 and put those shows in his top 2011 shows (Oh and Jimmy Eat World! Didn't know they were still around), I don't blame you for not knowing Yo La Tengo at all

If you like Yo La Tengo, these shows are amazing. Very different from a normal Yo La Tengo show in that they play 8 of them in a row, so they take the time and really go through the catalogue. You will hear songs from almost any album and they bring the guests on stage for different versions or songs that are hard to do live as a trio. For example, first night of hanukah in 08 they had Janet Weiss drumming the whole time, so with 2 drummers they played a lot of songs differently, with odd choices. You never know what you will get and it's almost always something fun and different. LOTS of Ira freakouts and covers. Lots of jokes and weird behavior. Lots of obscure songs. It's really awesome, but not for the casual fan. This is not how I would introduce someone to Yo La Tengo.

Hopefully tonight, The Feelies will open! And since Louis CK performed last night at UCB.....maybe he'll show up!

Night 5's setlist in particular is great. I would have loved to have been there.

Whew! Although it wasn't the Feelies, we got The Trypes which was totally unexpected as they don't play much at all! It was a trippy, retro set by Feelies "side project/spin off" the Trypes. Then SNL vet Chris Elliott took the stage and performed his own version of "I Am, I Said'' while backed by YLT. I saw someone taping it so hopefully it'll show up on Youtube soon. Absolutely hilarious and the only time I enjoyed hearing Neil Diamond song...YLT was class act all the way. Noise + pop = fucking awesome. For the last encore of the night, they brought out Ira's grandmother for "My Little Corner of the World" Thanks Ira &co, good times as usual. Get some fucking rest and hope you feel better! Can't wait for next year to do it all over again

You can read/see pics from every night here....

Tonight: Real Estate and the comedian is Todd Barry! The Feelies played for over an hour last night FML! Enjoy 16 mins jam of Sister Ray below...

I said it last night, and I just may say it again tomorrow: Without the Feelies, I can’t really imagine our band being around today. They wanted to contribute in some way to the recovery from Sandy, and really I have no words to describe how it felt to have them spend night three of Hanukkah with us.
