I've been looking at the schedule to keep the Clashfinder updatedand noticed quite a few things. Mainly, the Nites shows have been massively updated, so check them out! Opening acts have been added all over and set times everywhere have changed.

Thee Oh Sees have been brought back as a headliner to the Small Black show at Beerland

Judge has been announced as the Special Guest TBA at Mohawk (inside) for Friday.

Chali 2na now has a solo set at Empire Control Room Sunday Night.

Sarah Silverman is now Saturday night instead of Sunday night.

Blake Schwarzenbach is now off the schedule for both Nites and the fest.

For the fest itself, the biggest thing is Swarzenbach being replaced by ((Sounder)), Bonobo and Deltron 303 switching places, Killer Mike performing at the skate ramp, several small comedian additions to the yellow stage, and taco cannon appearing on multiple stages.

    Here's the updated clashfinder: http://clashfinder.com/s/fff2013/

I'm out. Things started getting complicated and if I plan on doing both Coachella weekends plus Moogfest, I should probably sit this one out. It's a good lineup but I'm not as excited as I was last year for it. Have fun guys.

Obviously there will be more, but those are the only prints I can currently find.

So I'm walking down Barton Springs Rd, near where it ends at Congress, yesteday afternoon, in front of my hotel. I look across the street and I could have sworn I saw Andrew McDrinkerstein walking the other way, in the company of a dark haired female. Now I have never actually had the pleasure of meeting Mr. McDrinkerstein, and so I wasn't sure it was him, and besides we're on opposite sides of a busy street, so I didn't yell out "Hey Drinkey!" or anything. but maybe I should have?

Super impressed with the festival so far. I'll go into depth with my write-up, but Fun Fun Fun is similar to FYF only there's much more going on besides music. Auditorium Shores is beautiful and the weather has been fantastic.

I can confirm that Andrew McDrinkerstein, the lovely and witty Heather, Matt Gribbz, nathan fairchild and myself did not sing along to "Fall In" at Cloud Nothings. Not at all, not once, nope, never. Fall in, fall in, fall in.

I can also confirm that a guy in a cowboy hat in a wheelchair did not get lifted onto the stage during the Descendents, then did not sing along rather poorly, and then most decidedly did not crowdsurf afterwords.

    (he got his hat back)

    the breakdown:

    Friday:

The Tontons: this is an OK band, sort of your standard alternative rock fare, leaning slightly to the poppier side, but with a really stellar, charismatic, black woman lead singer.

Title Fight: Yeah they were good.

Mac Demarco: not as wild and crazy as I had hoped, but still, a song called "Sheryl Crow's Pussy Lips" and then a cover of "Takin Care of Business" made it worthwhile.

The Impossibles: I don't really remember. sort of forgettable ska I guess.

Kurt Vile: Man this guy is so great. He's deceptive, you think it's gonna be one thing then you realize it's something else altogether. "Goldtone" was my highlight of the set.

Thee Oh Sees: This was fun energetic stuff, though I liked their Coachella set a little bit better.

Bill Callahan: Along with Kurt Vile this was my highlight set from Friday. Opened with "White Light White Heat" which was amazing. I just started getting into this guy in prep for FFF (thanks for the recommendation Bryan) and I am now a fan. Put Leonard Cohen, Lou Reed, and Willie Nelson in a blender and you might get something like Bill Callahan.

Flag: Yeah this was good but Keith Morris still annoys me. I left early to see the last part of Snoop

Snoop: Does this guy actually do anything? Other than cheer-lead? "Who here likes to get DRUNK? (crowd roar) Who here likes to get STONED (crowd roar)". Then a truncated version of Gin and Juice that just seemed to end. I didnt' get it.

    Saturday:

Ola Podrida: were pretty good, Americana stuff, above average. (I tend to like that genre but it can get really tedious in the wrong hands; these guys did OK by me).

Retox: I got something to eat and found myself near the black stage. I listened to two songs from Retox. As others warned me, these guys are really bad. so instead I went and saw ...

The Go-Gos: oh I guess I mean Bleached. They are a lot better than their write up, which made me want to hate them, but man they reminded me a lot of the first time I saw the Go-Gos back in like 1981.

White Lung: I loved this set. loved it loved it loved it. I have spent two days trying to put my finger on what it is that I find so powerful in them. The best I can come up with is "they have a really great control, mastery even, of creating and sustaining dynamic tension". If they were able to write more interesting songs they could wind up in Titus Andronicus territory.

Chelsea Light Moving: I got very close up front for this, right in front of Thurston, and so that was cool. Played one song, broke a string, took a minute to restring, played several more songs, broke another string. "Bands that don't break strings -- don't trust them" Thurston told us and I cheered in support. On the last song they were jamming really hard and fast and Thurston's just going to town banging his guitar then -bam- song ends, he throws off his guitar, runs off the stage, and is high fiving the stageside group. It's so cool to see someone like him really get into it still after all this time.

Geographer: Is not very good. I wandered and drank beer.

Television: I don't even know what to say, this set was so amazing, even with sound problems early on (I was 20 ft from the stage and had a hard time hearing Tom's vocals - it got better later though). Tom was great, Billy Ficca was spot on, but the real surprise to me was Jimmy Rip -- who I don't know at all -- just tearing it up. Fucking fabulous.

Deerhunter: Apparently these guys agreed with me about the Television set, because they came out in warm ups and started jamming on the Marquee Moon riff. I would have loved to have seen a full cover, except you know we had just heard that song, but still. Brandon was talking about what a Television fan he was and all that. anyway Deerhunter's set was solid, really good, but since when did they become the band of choice for douchebag bros? The crowd was really pissing me off. shut the fuck up and listen dammit.

at this point i was seriously annoyed, and thought about leaving. I'm glad I didnt' because

Sparks: so those of you who saw their Coachella set know what a disappointment it was.. a nearly empty tent, the band playing and no feedback from the few in there listening. the FFF set was the exact opposite. tent was about 3/4 full (at least to start, though people left to get spots for the headliners I think), but more importantly the crowd was really really into it, and you could tell the guys were just loving it and feeding off of it. The whole thing made for a riveting, fun, delightful set.

Mood restored, I set off for

Descendents: How do I describe this. So fucking awesome. Better than their Coachella set, I thought. they still bring it. Fun and energetic and witty and fun and all that. see wheelchair guy above. the whole thing just felt so damned good.

    Sunday:

I wanted to see Lemuria but I got a late start and didn't see them. I only caught the very end of True Widow. I saw a few songs from Narrows and was 'meh'. so I killed a little time until

The Men: Another new discovery for me prepping for the fest, i loved it. I had no idea they played with lap steel in the band, which made me love them even more. they rocked.

Cloud Nothings: Yeah this was pretty spectacular. The new songs sound really, really good. Can't wait for the new album.

Washed Out: Drinkey and Gribbz convinced me to go to Washed Out. I wasn't impressed. I do know now, however, where the Portlandia theme is from.

I was also distracted following the Cardinals game on my phone. so I would up skipping the Dismemberment Plan and walking back to my hotel (only 5 minutes away) and watching the end of the game. Yay Cardinals.

    back for

Daniel Johnston: yes so this guy is a legend, mental illness, weird as hell. The set was just ok though. I was tired.

Slayer: I stayed for a bit but it had been a long weekend so I left.

    THE END.

Glad to hear it! He has an incredible back catalog too, I think you'd really love pretty much every record from Red Apple Falls (still released under the Smog moniker) onward.

And I'm very glad to hear this. They seem like they love playing together. Jimmy Rip apparently has played in Tom Verlaine's solo band since 1981 and was an understudy for Richard Lloyd during the first reunion rounds. What was the set like? Marquee Moon in total, or did you guys get other stuff as well?

Daniel Johnston: yes so this guy is a legend, mental illness, weird as hell. The set was just ok though. I was tired.
When I saw him this was exactly how I felt. Worth seeing once, probably not more than that though.

Thanks for the write-up. Any description on how new songs sound? Closer to second album, first album, etc.

Beautiful. I'm glad you guys got Little Johnny Jewel: that, Marquee Moon and Persia were the highlights of the set I saw. And if Persia and (presumably) the song they used to start the encore are any indication, the new album will wind up being pretty excellent once it's finally released.

I only went Saturday but it was a fucking blast. I can't recall the last time I had so much fun at a show. The organizers are doing something right.

Nathan awesome seeing you even just for a split second
Gribbz sucks I missed you at the show.

My body hurts from slam dancing / moshing. Back to work tomorrow. Bleh.
