    Default Sigur Rós headlining...

    New album next year...

Could this happen? Should this happen? They are past the point of sub-headlining...

Last few times they have been in SoCal:

    2008 - Greek Theater
    2006 - Coachella
    2005 - Hollywood Bowl

I recall the Greek show selling stupid fast...

I wasn't at the Coachella set...but I remember hearing there was some sound issues, and things were a bit rushed.

Do you think they lack the broad appeal, and are deemed a risk? Is the word risk even in Goldenvoice's vocabulary anymore?

Or perhaps do you think their return would go over better at their own show? I'll admit, I'm not really sure...but I won't argue with seeing their name on the poster.

Has Sasquatch ever had a headliner that played Coachella the same year? With no NW dates on this run, Sasquatch seems pretty plausible otherwise.

The headliner that shouldn't be a headliner but truly is a headliner that no one wants to believe can be a headliner.

    Wow... this was surprisingly accurate.

Sigur Ros... Probably could get away with a headline spot, and I would dig it. It'd be better though: Sigur Ros -> Atoms for Peace -> Headliner

Sigur and AFP slot was interchangeable for me, especially since AFP drew a massive crowd in 2010. But yes, so tempting...

Either way, Sigur Ros just being there is pretty fucking awesome. I have been waiting a long time to see them.

REM headlined Sasquatch and probably would have done the same at Chella.

KOL and Beasties also fit in this discussion somewhere.

Those weren't in the same year.

Either way, I wouldn't be that surprised by Sigur Ros headlining Sasquatch.

let's take a look at who's been top billed at both fests:

    CURE - 2008(sasquatch) vs. 2004/2009(coachella)
    BJORK - 2007(s) vs. 2002/2007(c)
    BEASTIES - 2007s vs. 2003c
    NIN - 2006/2009s(co-headlined with Janes) vs. 2005c
    KOL - 2009s vs. 2011c
    ARCADE - 2007s(sub w/ BJORK) vs. 2007c(sub)/2011c
    BON IVER - 2012s vs 2012c(sub)
    JANES - 2009s vs. 2001c
    BECK - 2006/2012s vs. 1999c
    COLDPLAY - 2003s vs. 2005c

Bjork, NIN and Cure each headlined both festivals within 13 months of each other.

REM seems to be the only Sasquatch headliner that Coachella could be jealous. Killers/Jack Johnson would "decent" headliners if they ever played Sasquatch.

I love Sigur Ros and have a strong attachment to their music. However, if they played, I would only watch them if they headlined. The thought of having casual festival-goers talking during the (shortened) set while they wait for whoever is next is incredibly discouraging; during most bands I could tolerate stuff like that, but I wouldn't be able to stomach someone doing that next to me during Sigur Ros. For me Sigur Ros is music that demands complete silence and respect. And there's no way that today's Coachella crowd would be able to act like that.

This reminds me of when I went to OSL this year. I was waiting for Jack White (and Stevie Wonder), and Regina Spektor was on beforehand. Now, I don't love her, but I've listened and she's alright in my book. I don't know if it was just the small group I was near, or if it expanded out through the whole crowd, but almost everyone was talking during her set. It sucked. And most of it wasn't even "talking" so much as bitching about when Jack White would come on. Eventually i turned to someone and said, "Listen, I get you're pumped to see Jack White- I am too. But shut your fucking mouth so people don't have to hear you bitch while this girl is doing her thing. Believe it or not, some people do like her. Can you handle that?"

Their audience at Outsidelands was surprising quiet for the duration of their set. And a good chunk of the attendees were from Southern California.
