This Friday the 14th of September we will be announcing the films and books chosen by Greg Dulli as part of his curation of the festival. Two of the books will be discussed at the festival (hosted by Lapham’s Quarterly), and the films will be shown in a cinema at the festival alongside other programming by The Criterion Collection and ATP.
For the scavenger hunt, we have left copies of some of the books and films featured at the event at various shops and businesses around New York City. (EDIITOR’S NOTE : the 24 hour rock news cycle isn’t kind to stories of great seriousness, but we’re hopeful the following will serve as a teaching moment of sorts for our younger readers, or the illiterate older people they hang out with. The memo below came to us via Chavez earlier today – GC)
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
Chavez regrets to announce cancellation of their appearance at September 23′s “I’ll Be Your Mirror” / All Tomorrow’s Parties in New York curated by Greg Dulli.
Suffering from what has been called “near lethal exhaustion” due to the band’s heavy touring schedule, guitarist Clay Tarver has checked himself into The Serenities Treatment Center outside of Mesa, Arizona.
The band’s management said only he will be receiving attention for issues he has battled for some time, and released a short statement from the famed guitarist: “I hope to catch my breath, face some demons, and come out kicking more ass than ever. You’re the best.”
Chavez asks “the number one fans in the world” to please respect Tarver’s privacy at this delicate time.
Damn. if it's on the Matador site, it is true.
That really sucks. Clay is a super nice guy, and has young kids. i hope everything is okay. Chavez were so great last year and at Primavera this year.

Aw man, I was looking forward to seeing them in a venue with good sound. I hope Clay is OK.. I wonder if we'll get a replacement
Clay is genuinely a nice dude. He consistently remembered me when Bullet LaVolta came through Pittsburgh about 50 times when I was in college and I had conversations with him several times. When he and Kenny Chambers were in the band, they were fucking awesome live, too, huge sounding dual guitar metallic punk, which was kinda unusual at the time.
can't find information about it anywhere. we've been duped!
chavez officially out, jeff the brotherhood in.
also theres a boat:
http://www.atpfestival.com/events/ib...1209141948.php
The boat thing sounds potentially cool.
stinkbutt: The reason last time for 'why not' was a (small) fee and overlapping of a set(I think it was Mudhoney and some of Iggy).
trying to think of a band I'd be willing to sacrifice for the scotch tasting.
i love scotch
The boat and Jeff the Brotherhood give me a slight tinge of regret, but with the destination wedding the following weekend I have to attend and my least favorite lineup ( no Shellac still would bum me out) since I've been interested in ATP, I'm still happy with my decision to do Fun Fun Fun Fest. I'm hoping ATP sells out, everyone raves about it, sound is good, vibe is awesome and next year I'm in again.
