I think it is good that most of the lineup reveals come from ATP; the longer they kept quiet on bands they had signed up the less this would happen.

Also I cannot imagine any festival telling us when they would reveal their lineup. That is so far from my conception of how such things work that it doesn't make any sense at all.

Also, damn, I appreciate being given the opportunity to make plans 7 or 8 months out. It mattered more when I was travelling across the country but, still. As you note there is incentive given to people not waiting: so they still have time to make arrangements.

For example, announcing the Whigs a few months before the tickets are even on sale - a lot of the people who were interested have probably forgotten by now, and the news won't be as big when they finally go on sale. Then these little groupings of 4-6 bands - especially given that one might only know half or fewer of them - don't ever seem to be enough to push the people waiting for something special over the edge
I get what you're saying but honestly I love how ATP announces their line up the way they do. They work under certain budget so they can't just announce huge chunks of bands that will be playing 9 months from now. Once the bands are under ATP's contract, they have to schedule around that time period where they can't announce certain show or play certain places due to radius clause. Last year's announcement for Portishead was made exactly a year from tomorrow so let's hope we hear something by end of the week! I'm excited to see what they have planned for this year

From the number of Asbury Park bands playing around the NYC-area last year I would have assumed that ATP doesn't do much of a radius clause.

But otherwise I agree with all that, especially hoping we get more than just the curator soon!

I don't mean tell us the day of the announcement, just let us know that it wasn't going to be in early January...

That being said, I believe there are a few festivals that announce the day they're going to announce and even have a big thing the day they announce(ie dropping hints, announcing them 1-by-1 on twitter, etc)... Given, they're usually much bigger fests than ATP

I was guessing for a bit that they had ATDI and couldn't announce and that's why they were waiting, but Refused announced some dates so that might not be applicable

In-season vs out-of-season makes a big difference... In July rooms go for about $400/ea, in september they go for $180-$200, in February they're about $100. ATP rooms IIRC are around $6-800 for the weekend

Muy bueno! With the Avalanches new LP finally coming out this year, I think they might be a great addition to ATP NJ

I hate that I can't buy tickets when the go on sale. It is going to make me twitch and break out in hives to sit here and not buy. I am already suffering extreme cognitive dissonance.

I think you shouldn't worry about selling out right away unless they announce ridiculous line up aka Aphex Twin, The Avalanches and etc...

Looking at past lineups for ATP, I think 2004 and 2009 are my favorites...what happened to the fans strike back thing? They should do that for ATP NJ!
