It's weird having my ticket already, only once in the last 3 years have I even got one. Before my Coachella pass as well (comes in tues).

Last year Mogwai sold tickets for their Mayan show in LA more than 8 MONTHS before their show. Weird.

i have a bulletin board that i keep tickets and all sorts of stuff. it's never been an issue for me. I also have "paperwork drawers" in varying levels of importance.

A good amount are added after the first lineup announcement, there's only a few bands on Sunday announced so far and none on Friday so yeah there'll be quite a few more added.

I think ATP should commission scientists to engineer a room specifically for Godspeed, so as to avoid the disaster. I'd pay an extra dollar for that, at least.

What Jared means is that the Convention Hall is more or less a basketball gym, so if they played there that'd be a very bad thing. I have confidence they'll be in the theater though.

I thought Portishead sounded great in the Conventional Hall though, fwiw.

I know what Jared means. And I, too, would like to see them in as ideal a setting as possible.

If they are the Sunday headliner then they'll be at the Convention Hall. Who wants the nonsense repeated that happened with Jeff Mangum last year because he was in the Paramount?

I assume (hope?) ATP will figure out a way to regulate/fix the Convention Hall sound problems. I found Chavez and Public Enemy pretty bad there and The Horrors were also sounding not so great (and others who where there reported problems with Company Flow). But both Bonnie Prince Billy and Portishead sounded great there, which shows the room can work.

"Sound issues" were not problems per say, they were bands and crew taking the time to get things right before starting. Unlike the typical festival where bands jump in and go with little or no soundcheck and oftentimes, a shared common backline, each band was afforded a full soundcheck on their own equipment. Also rare in this day and age, the front of house sound was mixed analog, each mix had to be dialed in by hand instead of the typical insert your memory card from the last show and go. It was done this way for you the audience, so that you could get the full experience of each act and not just a taste of what each had to offer. As far as Convention Hall, you are in a concrete box. Despite extensive draping, top line PA, and excellent system techs, if the bands (and their techs) want to run with huge volume, it will get muddy. But my bet is that just about anyone there to see Public Enemy or any of the louder acts would gladly trade clarity for the sheer pounding bass any day. Portishead and may of the subtler acts were some of the best sounding shows I have had the pleasure to work in the room.

I hope that's not going to be representative of the attitude toward sound in that room for 2012, i.e: "*shrug* if rock/rap acts turn it up too loud it'll sound like shit and that can't be helped"

It's disheartening to hear that a festival like ATP has subpar sound in certain areas. I suppose there's only so much they can do though.

I mean, despite what everyone wants to say about Kutschers, the second room kind of blew for sound. While Bob Mould/No Age was a blast, it was super muddy, and Circulatory System was hard to hear most of the time. Yes, that's the second stage, but they also said they were going to work on the sound issues for this year. I've got le faith.

Well, the space you're in has a lot to do with it. Outdoor fest have it easy - get good equipment and good people and you're set. But when you're dealing with mucky acoustics, it's a lot more challenging.

The only set I had really major issues with last year was Company Flow - they sounded like utter shit. Deerhoof sounded okay. DD/MM/YY was just boring so i didn't pay attention to the sound and I left. Chavez wasn't perfect, but i was pretty close to the stage and it didn't bother me that much. The Horrors sounds great to me, but I was basically rail for that set. And as everyone said everything was dialed in pretty good for Portishead. Every other set I saw was in the theater or the bowling alley, both of which were great. I still love that in the midst of a festival i could get $2 beers. The staff at the bowling alley were fucking awesome.
