    OH HELL YES!

I don't want the first full record club to be themed, but I'd love to have a dance one, potentially leading into a dance night at the Avalon, since it's walking distance from the red.

Tom Waits - Mule Variations 2LP

I actually had never really listened to him before and decided to grab this. Must say his voice is pretty hard for me to get into, hopefully it grows on me though

It sucks when you see a seller list a ton of stuff that's in your want list and that person turns out to be your ex who broke your heart the most of anyone ever.

Fuck, do I want those records.

Oh damn. I'll be buy them for you via proxy. There's no reason you shouldn't have them, but there's no reason to let that twat know you want them.

They're fairly rare things, so they're expensive as hell anyway. (Not unfair prices, just a lot of money). The look on my face when I saw the note that this seller has (54 from your wantlist). Argh.

Picked up a cartridge, now just need to put it on my table/align it.

For the people that have done this before, how did you do it? I have a Thorens td 160 and am attaching a Grado Green if that helps.

    LP:
    Django Django - Django Django

My roommate gave me this for my birthday. I had never heard of this band before. The record is really enjoyable and reminded me a ton of the Beta Band. The record is poppy and sunshiney and leans a bit towards the electronic side of things, but (again) in a Beta Band kind of way. Anyway, this is worth checking out.

That's awesome news. I'm glad I've not shelled out a fortune to pick either of those up, yet.

*whistle* That's a nice little table. LOVE Thorens.

Turntables generally come with a little tool or guide to get it aligned properly. If not, check turntable forums. I forget which one specifically, but there's a great one that has a MASSIVE library of service manuals for hundreds of turntables in PDF. If you can't find the right info, join a forum and ask someone.

    Betta ask sombody......

So i too am currently in the hunt for a new needle and cartridge, but unsure of where to shop and what to get.

This is my table (for the most part, not my actual one) -

    willing to spend around $200.

    any suggestions.....???
Coachella 07 (the introduction), 08 (the bands), 09 (the documentary), 10 (the people i came with), 11 (the relationship test... we passed), 12 (whatever the weather, Dirty Epic forever), 13 (the year of the troll)

$200 is a pretty solid budget. Personally, I'm obsessed with new old-stock vintage Stanton cartridges (680 EE, 680 EL, and 681 EEE) & their associated styli and spend entirely too much money collecting them. I suggest reading reviews on Kabusa or any other number of sites and figure out what they sound they like and the sound you're looking for. The sky really is the limit, just depends what you want.

    and just because its easier for me to understand your information;

whats a noticeable difference in the cartridges you suggested....? what separates them from one another sound wise.....?

Good god yes! I have an original of Richard D. James that didn't cost me much more than the price of the repress, but I Care is one of the three that I still really, really want from him (I also need Come To Daddy and Drukqs, but good luck on the second one.) I want to see the analord series repressed, or at least a highlights album.

And holy crap, that label is also going to distribute a repress of The Dead C - Harsh 70s Reality. One of the best noise rock albums of all time. Jump on that.

Today I went to Third Man in Nashville:

    Jack White - Blunderbuss

I'm in love with 70s & 80s Stanton stock, but that doesn't mean you will be. If you're looking for an all-around, solid cartridge look at carts from Shure, Ortofon, Grado, etc. Steer away from modern Stanton, shit sucks these days. I avoid DJ carts and look for hi-fi. DJ stuff is more durable, but they don't often sound as good IMO, and are way too bassy. Everyone has their own taste, though, you'll have to just listen and read reviews. Product reviews on Kabusa are generally pretty straight-forward and easy to understand, but they don't include a lot of detail beyond the specs and a brief, 3-4 line description.

You're in LA, right? Find a couple hi-fi shops that sell tables, cartridges, etc and go listen & talk to the staff. A lot of stuff may be out of your price range, but it will give you an idea of what different brands and models sound like, and what comparable-but-cheaper alternatives exist.

There'll be a record store on-site? Regardless, we need to check out Grooves and probably hit Groove Merchant again if we find some time.
