My understanding is that Expedit wasn't really made for vinyl. I chose the Amoeba storage units for my records and they are really sturdy.

When I bought mine they had them on the showroom with a cloth basket in each slot, so basically it was an Ikea filing cabinet. As soon as I saw it I thought records.

The Kallax shelves are a little thinner than the Expedits but ikea says that they are just as sturdy. Time will tell I guess.

Same. My mom actually has a 5x5 filled with drawers and god knows what else holding all of her scrapbooking stuff. No other shelf is so widely used for vinyl, I think. I have friends in Europe that use them. Half of the people I sell records to have them.

That Marshall Tucker album really is great. Their first couple are really, really good. Things start getting a little stale & cheesy by the mid-70s but those first few really rip.

it's actually been going on for several weeks. the best items sell out quick, but they do keep adding good items. (yesterday I noticed they had four godspeed you black emperor albums on sale.) they also seem to be gradually increasing the % over time.

I went to Aquarius and got their last copy of Dude Incredible.

I have historically not been that into Richard Strauss but his orchestral work is growing on me after I started to really get his operas. And today the Gilbert/NYPO recording of Don Juan really clicked so I was thrilled to find a copy of Strauss tone poems played by Szell/Cleveland Orchestra so I got that too.

    Epic Stereorama. Recorded in 1957.

Though I wish I had found some of his mono recordings; those by and large haven't been re-released. I mean the record I got is the original release in 1960 but it isn't prized because those recordings have been reissued on a number of other records, tapes, CDs, etc.

Though I wish I had found some of his mono recordings; those by and large haven't been re-released. I mean the record I got is the original release in 1960 but it isn't prized because those recordings have been reissued on a number of other records, tapes, CDs, etc.
Nearly every classical collector I have come across lives and dies for Stereo. Very particular about which releases they buy.

Interesting! The late 50s and 60s are definitely thought of as a golden age and by and large the recordings from that era don't sound significantly worse than the early digital age or even whatever we're in now. But if one is looking for performances, they happened when they happened and were recorded how they were recorded. If I'm going to listen to Gould play the Goldberg Variations I'm going to make my decision based on what style of performance I want and not pick the 1982 digital stereo one over the 1955 mono just because of the recording technique or fidelity. I'm going to listen to Furtwangler, Mengelberg and Toscanini because they were masters; I can't ignore them just because they died/retired before/as stereo recording hit.

But I am intrigued and want to know more.
