Small but fruitful trip to Amoeba:

Big Mama Thornton - Big Mama Thornton & the Muddy Waters Blues Band
    * Thrilled about this, I've been looking for it for three years now.
    Roberta Flack - First Take
    * NM in the clearance bin, solid replacement for my beat up copy.

Not this set, surprisingly. It's certainly not her best release but I'm just a huge (read: obsessive) fan of Arhoolie Records, and it's cool hearing Muddy Waters, James Cotton, & Otis Spann backing her up and really having a good time doing it. I paid $10, which is an absolute steal for this album; I would have gladly paid 2 or 3x that amount.

EDIT: I legitimately enjoy the entire record, but I really wanted this record solely for this one song. This is the track God puts on when his lady steps out on him.

Four song EP (I guess it's technically a 12" single) from 1993 or something. "50 Ft. Queenie", "Reeling" and demos of "Hook" and "Man-Size."

Did anyone pick up the Melon Collie Infinite Sadness reissue? Not sure if I should buy the vinyl or the CD box set (which includes the dvd), but would really like it on vinyl.

I went to one of the four local thrift stores today and caught some pretty awesome stuff

Herb Alpert & Tijuana Brass - Whipped Cream and Other Delights
Gene Autry - You Are My Sunshine and Other Greatest Hits
Frank Sinatra - Songs For Swingin' Lovers
Synergy - Sequencer (early Moog album, looks killer)
    Wanda Jackson - Wonderful Wanda
Sergio Mendes and Brasil '66 - Herb Alpert Presents
Benny Goodman - The Complete Benny Goodman, Vol. 5/1937-1938 (Lester Young's on a bunch of these sides!)

Looking forward to visiting the others soon and to swing by the antique shops. Small towns have interesting selections.

Dang. Good score. I forgot that Prez played with Benny for a bit. Does Charlie Christian play on any of those? I'm not sure if he joined Benny's band in 38 or 39, but that guy could fucking play.

I'll have to check the liners. I listened to the first disc (it's a two disc set) and it sounded pristine. The tracks are great. The Wanda Jackson record is a cool early 60s country album with strings too, really digging it.

Awesome. I really dig a lot of Wanda's softer country sides, almost more than her rockabilly stuff.

My local record store is usually hit or miss, but today they had some gems.

    LP:
    Dinosaur Jr. - Bug
Minutemen - Double Nickels On The Dime 2LP

The second side of the record is pure gold. I posted that after the first side, which has some really good soft country ballads. The second side mostly retains that tempo, but there was one song that had a fuzzed out, almost psych-style guitar solo. On a mainstream country album. In 1962.

Picked up a few records I had on hold. I'm done going to record stores for a bit. Seriously.

    LP:
The Nipple Erectors/The Nips - Bops, Babes, Booze and Bovver
Nancy Sinatra & Lee Hazelwood - Nancy & Lee
Various Artists - We Got Power

You guys should check out the Nipple Erectors comp. It's Shane MacGowan's pre-Pogues band, and they fucking ruled.

Yay, HTDW's TOTAL LOSS showed up today! I got one of the white/pink splatter ones too, and although the stamp of the tracklisting on side 2 is a bit smeared I'm just glad to finally have it.

Yay mine showed up too. I'm so stoked, the vinyl is beautiful looking. Well worth the wait. The extra 7-inch and poster were nice too.

I'm much more happy with the second record that showed up today!!! D'Angelo reissue... holy fuck. Sound is incredible. Packaging is ace. Tons of notes and nic-nacs. The sleeves slide in and out like buttah. Beautiful reissue and I'm so fucking happy to finally have this one vinyl. Lights in the Attic kills it once again.

This showed up today and was a great surprise. It's a christmas gift so I don't get to open it/listen to it until then, but apparently Popmarket got ahold of the limited edition Grateful Dead fanclub version with the added poster and Dark Star 7". I can't wait to hear what that song sounds like compressed into 2-3 minutes.

Haha, that's amazing. I think the longest 7" I've heard was just under 6:00, and that would still be rushing Dark Star.

So, I'm super stoked 'cause I have my new turntable and phono preamp picked out to buy for Christmas. It's the Music Hall MMF 2.2 with a Musical Fidelity V-LPS MKII amp. My question, what would be a good pair of speakers to buy? Any suggestions $300 and under would be greatly appreciated!

If you're handy and willing to build it yourself, this is a pretty good kit. http://www.diysoundgroup.com/speaker...amiga-kit.html

Yeah dude! Such a hot track.

And DIY speakers? Not quite sold on that. I don't believe I could personally achieve the level of fidelity to which I'm accustomed.

Which Gilberto Gil self-titled? By my count he has three legit self-titled releases and three more that are live albums with titles like Gilberto Gil Au Vivo. And if that's vinyl you mind me asking how much?
