My buddy has been waiting forever for that thing
Broke my record buying break.
NM- first pressing of Mission of Burma's VS. with the original inner sleeve. Woooooooo, Amoeba backwall!
Me too. Other than the stuff I bought at the El-P show, I've not been shopping in two weeks, and probably won't be able to go for about a month and a half now. Saving money is good, but I REALLY want to go to Mono and Permanent and see what they've got on the shelves.
I made it about a month. So proud of myself!
Wait I'm just seeing this. DOLLAR BIN? ARE YOU SURE? WTF.
Like, I've never seen those in the dollar bin, let alone at Amoeba put out for the scrounging — expect maybe Candy Apple Grey, which I think I only paid $7 a few years ago.
I'm gonna guess the Flag 12" is a reissue since the original was a 7"...
And I'm gonna guess the Cramps was too? Because I paid a pretty penny for my first pressing.
Low...well, I've seen that all over the place in various pressings for a variety of money.
Good job on Experimental Jet Set. I regret not buying that or $25 when I had the chance.

Just got this in the mail today:

Yep, Original Cramps pressing with the rainbow labels. Sleeve has a bit of wear but the disc is really nice. It has a promotional stamp on the back and all the words on the back are in purple unlike other pressings I've seen.
But yeah that Amoeba booth is something to look out for. On my second visit I got a BEAUTIFUL copy of Damaged by Black Flag on unicorn with anti parenting sticker for $25. Cover is almost NM- and the disc is about the same. Cost $25 and he gave me the X - Los Angeles pressing they had for 2.99 for free. Original pressing of that one too, super beat up cover but flawless disc somehow.
Moral of the story: CHECK OUT AMOEBA BOOTHS AT FESTIVALS. (and try to be first)
SHIT SON. A+ work.

Magical Strings - On the Burren
On the Burren is sort of new age sounding. I found it digging at a new records store near the folk section. It cought my eye because i've been to the Burren in Ireland and was interested to see what soundscapes they came up with and i'm also a sucker for an interesting story. The couple who recorded this are married and live in the state of Washington on the opposite coast on the shore of the opposite ocean than that of which the Burren is on. They recorded it with various string instrumetns from the violin, cello and harp to the hammer dulcimer and whistles. Researching a bit "magical strings" was semi successful and had multiple releases over the years. I listened to it last night and it's nice music.
Back to the Moog album with Dick Hyman. I really love this record. I cought the sample that Beck uses in Sissyneck right off the bat. This album much more listenable than I expected. It made me wonder if the North Adams band The Book drew some inspiration from it's experimentation.
ods..., where did you pick up the Killer Mike album? Will that be what I get if I order it new on Amazon? It says ltd edition.
Yeah the instrumentals were a nice touch. 25 at zia, pricy but I traded in a bunch of stuff so whatever.

My uncle got a bunch of 78s (around 100) for some reason and he asked me to sell what I wanted on eBay and keep whatever. So far I've found over 20 12" from Enrico Caruso which look like they sell for 20-50 a piece. Only problem is I don't know how to grade these records. I don't have player thatll play 78s but they all look really shiny with no scratches. When I play them on my cheap turntable at 45 rpm they sound mega crackly. Anyone have any cleaning techniques for these? Or a way I could easily/cheaply play 78s?
i would just say fuck it. take pictures of them and say you aren't really sure how to grade and they will still sell well on ebay.
They sound mega crackly because the styli for 78s are thicker and heavier, hifi styli just bounce around in the grooves.
What Jared said, just take pictures, include Goldmine grading, and mention that they weren't play-tested. They'll still sell, Caruso 78s in good condition are highly-sought items.
I used to have a portable that played 78s and I got rid of it. Bummer because I do have one 78 of one of my favorite old timey tunes. Wish I could listen to it.

This was posted on vinyl col forum a while back but clear lp won't be limited. For future reference, try not to order from Merchnow. They take forever to ship and do a poor job packaging. If you're looking to purchase grey (not clear anymore) with pink splatter, check hot topic website/store on 7/17. They're getting 1500 copies (it'll be cheaper @ Hot topic too) while Merchnow has 500 copies.
Fearless Records is re-issuing At The Drive-In "In/Casino/Out" on vinyl on July 17th 2012. The standard pressing will be pressed on Clear vinyl. There will also be an extremely limited 2000 pressing of grey vinyl with hot pink splatter.
thanks for the clarification spooks. I'll probably just grab a ltd one as well when they come out
I'm just excited to finally get it on vinyl! Thought I'd never see the day lol
