I don't get to listen to my records as often as I'd like since my setup only allows me to use it in one room in our house, so I am usually pretty focused on listening.
From Forced Exposure yesterday...
Paco Sala - Ro-Me-Ro LP
Emeralds - Does It Look Like I'm Here? (Daphni Mixes) 12"
Watch sports, work out, dance in my living room etc. More than just background music.
LPs need to be flipped, so I can't just walk away and have hours of music. Forces me to be a more active, engaged listener. Everyday, though, I try to find time to sit and listen to at least one album in its entirety, giving my full, undivided attention.
This, especially since my turn table doesn't have automatic shut off. I find that I'm paying a lot more attention, rather than putting on music then leaving the room and forgetting what I was even listening to. Also, I hadn't realized how much mp3s have impacted the way I parse 'albums' -- I'd gotten to the point where I stopped paying attention to what album a track was on, where I have no sense of its context in relation to the rest of the album. So I'm really enjoying listening to albums in full again.
And it is making me appreciate the releases that are good start to finish since it's not very practical to jump up and skip over a track that isn't good.![]()
Like others have said, I listen to records when reading, writing, watching sports on TV, or even playing video games. I also do so when I really want to listen to something closely, as, like greghead and chiapet metnioned, playing records forces me to be more actively engaged with the process (it also sounds better too!).
