Record shows. I was always very wary of buying vinyl on-line. When I collected vinyl (up until last year) I had the good fortune of knowing a couple of guys that "travelled the circuit" and they would let me know about such things. In general, the giants (Davis, Coltrane, Mingus, Ellington etc..) are relatively easy to find on viny with reissues pricing around $4-$10 per album.
That being said, a lot of the jazz labels have done fantastic work with their reissues and liner notes. I know there is a certain asthetic to jazz on vinyl and I know the bottom end is represented better as well, but unless you're just a vinyl collector in general, I would suggest that you save some money and buy the music in CD form (UNLESS, you have a taste for pre-1950 live perfomances....the hunt the shows and have fun!).

I got Jamie Lidell - Multiply on compact disc recently. I specifically wanted it in that format. Normally if I'm going to purchase music, I think vinyl in the best format. I like it a lot.

Suede: Head Music
Suede: Coming Up
Love and Rockets: Love and Rockets
Lou Reed: Magic and Loss
Fiona Apple: Tidal
Beastie Boys: Ill Communication
I wondered about this one. Thanks for the comment. I love "Multiply" and Lidell's set at Coachella '06 was one of the best I saw that year.Multiply: Additions is good too.
