True, but I still think it's pretty accurate. London Calling is from 2010 or 11 and is also very good, but I prefer Live in New York.

    Huh. Cool. Very excited.
Does he do openers still, or is it An Evening With sort of thing?

Yeah, I don't think he does openers. I've only seen him twice, but there was no opener either time and I've never heard of him having one. He does do guests occasionally, though.

Is there some sort of special general admission section like U2 has if you arrive early enough?

This is how it was the last two tours:

It's a lottery. If you have a floor ticket, you go to the venue during the afternoon (usually between 2pm and 4pm, they'll post times as the dates get closer) and they give you a wristband with a number on it. At around 5pm, they draw a # to see who goes in the front of the line. For instance, if they give out 700 wristbands and they draw #365, the line starts with the person who has 365, then 366, etc. There's a pit in front for a few hundred people, and then a barrier and the rest of the floor. So if they draw a # and you fall within the first few hundred people (depending on how many the venue will let in), you'll be in "the pit" near the front of the stage.
We're here to play some Mississippi Delta Blues. We're in a horrible depression, and I gotta admit - we're starting to like it.

Both London Calling and Live From New York are great representations of a Springsteen live show.

I don't think Springsteen has had an opening band since the mid-70s. If then, even.

    Tour opener at the Apollo:

We Take Care of Our Own
    Wrecking Ball
    Badlands
    Death to My Hometown
    My City of Ruins
    The E Street Shuffle
    Jack of All Trades
    Shackled and Drawn
    Waitin' on a Sunny Day
    The Promised Land
    Mansion on the Hill
The Way You Do the Things You Do
    634-5789
    The Rising
    We Are Alive
    Thunder Road

    Rocky Ground' (with Michelle Moore)
Land of Hope and Dreams/People Get Ready
    Tenth Avenue Freeze-Out
    Hold On, I'm Comin'

The most heart-wrenching moment of the night was saved for 'Tenth Avenue Freeze-Out,' when Bruce and the band came to a stop after the line, "The big man joined the band." Springsteen wildly waved his arm, willing the crowd to scream for Clemons while the rest of the band looked on, appearing both drained from the epic performance and invigorated by the memorial.

I think the shorter set time, as well as the focus on newer material and covers can be explained in part by the unique location and the fact that it was broadcast. I'm sure that by the time the tour starts in earnest he'll remember that he wrote The River.

    Yes, that makes sense.

I haven't heard the new album yet but "Wrecking Ball" and "Waitin on a Sunny Day" on that setlist do not excite me at all. But "The Rising" and "Land of Hope and Dreams" (at least the Live in NYC version from 10 years ago) do.

    This amuses me though.

"Ladies and gentlemen are you ready for showtime? Welcome to Harlem's legendary Apollo Theater! I'd like to introduce to you, right now, a young man, he was Born in the U.S.A! Arrived here tonight in his Pink Cadillac! Winner of the Academy Award! He brought you such great hit as 'Dancing in the Dark,' 'Born to Run,' 'Hungry Heart'! I'm talking about "Mr. Badlands," the Jersey Devil himself, the man who paid the cost to be the Boss, the hardest working white man in show business! Let's hear it for Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band!"

That doesn't even look like a Springsteen setlist, I don't even know most of those songs. I hope that setlist improves by the time he hits LA.

"Land" is by far the best song on the album, it does the 1999 version ample justice. A mixed bag of an album, somewhere between the drunken folk of The Seeger Sessions and the recent E Street albums. There's nothing embarrassing, but there are too many unnecessary studio touches here and there that really don't add much other than distraction.

My guess is that by this time next year, they'll be playing whatever and forgetting about the new album, just like 2009. Unless Bruce gets wrapped up in the election.

I forgot about the on-sale for San Jose and missed out on anything resembling a worthwhile ticket. Sigh.

    Wrecking Ball - new album
    Badlands - d'oh
Death to My Hometown - new album
My City of Ruins - The Rising
    The E Street Shuffle - d'oh
Jack of All Trades - new album
Shackled and Drawn - new album
Waitin' on a Sunny Day - The Rising (and not one of the better songs on that album imo)
    The Promised Land - d'oh
Mansion on the Hill - d'oh
The Way You Do the Things You Do - cover
    634-5789 - cover
    The Rising - The Rising
We Are Alive - new album
    Thunder Road - d'oh

Rocky Ground' (with Michelle Moore) - new album
Land of Hope and Dreams/People Get Ready - new album/cover, except "Land" was also released on Live in NYC back whenever
    Tenth Avenue Freeze-Out - d'oh
Hold On, I'm Comin' - cover

I wish I could have seen this. I have been to the Austin Music Awards in the past, and I have also met and chatted with both Escovedo and Ely.

So I just realised he's playing the night before I leave LA (also the night I leave).
There are some semi-decent tickets on Stubhub for $80-$90 but I'm wondering if I'm better off waiting and hoping prices go down? And are there better sites than Stubhub?

There were tickets galore outside the 2009 shows. Hardly any scalpers either, they know better. If that's how much they cost weeks in advance, imagine what it would be a few hours before showtime.

Yeah, I assume they'll get cheaper but I wanna make sure I have the tickets before I heard over to the US.

So is this saying that if I show up at least 2 hours before doors I can get a wristband for the lottery or do they run out of those?

Right. If doors open 7 p.m. they'll hand out lottery wristbands from 2 p.m. until 5 p.m. You'll get one as long as you're there before that 2 hour cutoff time. I love the lottery procedure. Well, at least since it got me in the pit on the Seeger Sessions and Working on a Dream tours.
