Hopefully in 25 years someone will be impressed I once saw LCD and Arcade Fire on the same bill! I've got nothing that remotely competes with Springsteen and Talking Heads in 1980. Envious beyond belief. Next you'll say you were at the Pretenders the following month.

seeing him for the 1st time at Fenway in a couple weeks...not ready at all for how epic that night is gonna be. for it to be at Fenway, and to go with my dad who is on dialysis now out here in San Diego, it is going to be fucking special.

gonna road trip it to Oakland with a buddy of mine for sure, hopefully hit the Anaheim show as well.

I know he hasn't played here since the 80's, but heard rumors of a San Diego show 12/3

I think I'll be at the AZ show. I know the Boss is good, but so far I havent really dived into his work. Any suggestions as a starting point? or even top 5 albums?

Top 5 are albums #2 through #6 (chronological):

The Wild the Innocent the E Street Shuffle
Born to Run
Darkness on the Edge of Town
The River
Nebraska

#7 was Born in the USA, which is good and worth hearing but not great like those 5.
#8 was Tunnel of Love, also worthy but a stylistic aberration for Springsteen.

Anything other than that is hit or miss. The Rising is mostly pretty good, Tom Joad has its moments, and the first album (Greetings from Asbury Park) can be charming, but it sort of tails off from there. I don't think any of his albums are truly bad, however.

If you want to be prepared for the show, review setlists from this tour and create a playlist. He's doing a lot of stuff off the last few albums on this tour. Also, he has about 500 different live albums, plus about 500,000 easy-to-find live bootlegs, that might be the best way to get to know his music. Live 1975-85 is very very good (but truncates at BITUSA).

Tom is correct, the best way to get into Springsteen is to listen to his peak run of albums in chronological order. I'd recommend listening to everything from Born to Run to Born in the USA, in order. I'd come back to The Wild, the Innocent & the E Street Shuffle (and Greetings from Asbury Park, NJ) after hitting the '75 to '84 peak.

TWTI&TESS is a significantly underappreciated record IMO.

A lot of that probably stems from the fact that just about everyone came to it after hearing Born to Run (if not many of the other records as well) first.

I love it. There's so much playfulness and joy on that record. It's the last album that he recorded before he was either a) self-consciously trying to make the greatest rock and roll album ever recorded, or b) one of the world's greatest and most popular rock stars.

These set lists lately have me thinking the Glendale show is going to be extra special with it being the last show of 2012. Really hope I get lucky again and get in the pit. I've seen him twice, once on the Seeger Sessions tour and once on the WOAD tour, and both times I got lucky and ended up on the rail.
