To those who have played Oblivion: What are some of your favorite improvements?

Less generic setting. Less emphasis on combat. Better combat. No retarted levelling system wherein the game gets harder as you level.

I thought Morrowind was a better game than Oblivion, graphics aside. Oblivion had no soul.

Oblivion gates?

they are gates that pop up all around the world that are portals to the plane of oblivion. oblivion is this hell-looking wasteland (rivers and lakes of fire, red sky, demons) and you have to activate this stone to close the portal that is at the top of a tower. you have to go through these caverns for some which were a pain in the ass, also the gates were unavoidable since the whole main quest focused around them. i think the total number of gate that you were required to close was 10.

I think I just fucked up my quests. I joined the Companions and came across a place called Driftsage Refuge or some shit and found a bunch of those Silverhands inside so I figured I'd do my Companion duty and wipe them out. Little did I know, I was supposed to save that place for a later quest and now I can't proceed with the Companion quests anymore with all of them dead now.

Fuck.

I'll never forget the maddening hell (pun intended) of getting REALLY fucking baked one day right before playing Oblivion. Usually, that was a fantastic idea, but that day, I stepped into a Gate (not for the first time mind you) and wandered around for what seemed like HOURS, unable to find my way to the top of whatever tower. I'm sure I didn't play the game for multiple hours in that gate, but regardless, it was confusing, disorientating, frustrating, and all that jazz. I mean, I got really really high, so that was undoubtedly the reason for my lack of direction, but still.

In Oblivion, if you were carrying too much crap, you were rooted to the spot until you ditched some excess. It was dumb and immensely frustrating.

It's actually my favourite improvement between Oblivion and Fallout, come to that.

Praying at shrines is the best way to fix that. Like the Talos shrine where that guy is yelling in Whiterun.

There are mini blessings you can get in Whiterun that usually clear it up. Altar of Talos is one of them.
