Thread: TRASHED artist submissions now being accepted

Default TRASHED artist submissions now being accepted

The Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival truly has the prettiest trash cans around.

For years, nonprofit environmental group Global Inheritance has gussied up the Empire Polo Club during Coachella with recycling bins designed by artists with its “TRASHed” project.

Global Inheritance is now accepting submissions for the upcoming Coachella festivals, set for April 13-15 and 20-22, 2012. There will be 50 recycling bins designed and placed around the festival grounds.

This year, if your design is selected, you automatically receive a pass to the Coachella weekend of your choice. But beware, an art critic has veto power to take away that magical pass if your completed recycling bin doesn't look like your submission in terms of quality.

The bins will be donated to a school in the Coachella Valley after the festival.

Global Inheritance (which has also been the proponent of the 10 recycled bottles for 1 free water bottle program) also has major plans for a new project for 2012. Apparently the Energy Factory DJ mixer, in which festival goers used human energy from friends and fellow music fans to power a DJ set, will be retired in order to introduce the biggest recycling program yet.

Send your Coachella recycling bin design concept (under 2 megabytes) via email to trashed@globalinheritance.org.

Who has submitted before? Do you just send in samples of your artowrk that you would like to use on the can, or do you have to actually design a can and then send a picture of it to them?

I wanted to participate in the dj comp last year but just didnt get around to putting a submission together, plus I wouldn't want to miss any acts due to something that looked rather silly.

I wonder if there will be some more art installations to fill in the space where the energy factory was or if it will just open up the field more for breathing space...Either way I'll be content no matter which way it goes.

My ex and I submitted online, we sent a sketch of our can, we weren't accepted. We just drew it out though, I'm sure if we actually had someone who knew graphic design to make a proper picture of it on the computer.

Inspire Thousands Of Festival Goers And Win A Pass To the Weekend Of Your Choice.

Coachella Music & Arts Festival and Global Inheritance are confirming artists to participate in the TRASHed exhibit taking place this April in Indio, California.

Founded in 2004, the TRASHed :: Art of Recycling program is an interactive art walk on the Coachella grounds that encourages festival goers to recycle using redesigned recycling bins designed by artists from around the world.
50 artists will be selected to design a 65 gallon recycling bin for the festival in 2012. These recycling bins will be on display during both Coachella weekends and then donated to a local school in the Coachella Valley.

A TRASHed Coachella art exhibit will take place in Los Angeles before all the redesigned recycling bins are shipped to the festival grounds.

All artists will receive a festival pass for the weekend of their choice plus the opportunity to have their artwork displayed and promoted on the Coachella and Global Inheritance websites.

Interested artists must submit samples of their work before January 31st to:
    TRASHed@globalinheritance.org

PLEASE KEEP ALL ATTACHMENTS UNDER 2MB

hey be careful if you choose to submit... a couple of years ago my friend submitted his art, was chosen, created the trash and delivered that thing all the way to LA for them to put in their pre exhibit. And when he got to the festival his pass had been given to another entrant. Their excuse was that they couldnt see his name on the entry. Which hardly makes sense because if they have the 50 winning entries and 50 trash cans it should even take a high school diploma to figure out who's was who's. And to ad insult to injury when my friend got inside the fest they were still using his artwork which is a major no no. Their only response to him was that he could try again next year. You also have to pay for your supplies and the shipping cost to get the trash can to LA if you dont live in the area.

Wow.. if all of that is true, I think I'd rather just paint my own trash can with an awesome design.

I mean I'm sure my friend's situation was a fluke but I can't even imagine the shipping costs involved to get a trash can to la. And the lack of respect shocks me too.
