So I'm trying to set up a pedal board. What do you use to power the pedals - just batteries? Or do you buy one of those expensive power strip things (can't remember what they're called) that you can use to plug all the pedals in?

I'm looking to get a few more BOSS pedals soon. A reverb pedal and a tremolo pedal. Maybe also their harmonizer pedal. I plan on getting one of those power strip things, like this one... But that would probably only be good for jamming out at home. I like to record things all the time, and I imagine that one of those power strips would bring noise into the recording.

Those one spot power adapters are actually very reliable. I've seen countless amounts of musicians using them live, they're pretty good for the money.

Don't buy the Boss Harmonizer, it's shit. If you want some good harmony, go with the Digitech Whammy.

Really? I've read about how a Whammy pedal is, in the end, a superior pedal. But I haven't heard anything about Boss Harmonizer being a bad pedal. I've read a lot of praise on its clean sound, its size, and how its effects are really great (especially its pitch-shifter).

The Whammy is a much much MUCH better investment. The Harmonizer just reminds me of a Whammy without all of the cool features.

So, I went and tried out guitars last week. Of the things I played, I most enjoyed the Squier Vintage Modified Jaguar HH and the J. Mascis Jazzmaster.

Why should I go for one over the other? I liked the feel of both, preferred the neck on the Jaguar, and I liked different things with the tone for each.

My gut says Jag because I love the humbucking sound and the fact that each set of pickups has its own knob with tone and volume control, but I love the floating tremolo and the adjust-o-matic bridge on the Jazzmaster. There are so many things to consider.

Not according to most people I asked. They all thought the Jag looked slicker, and I tend to slightly agree. But they're both awesome looking guitars.

I went Mascis. It was more expensive and my folks offered to get whatever I wanted, so that was one reason. Also, that Squier moded Jag is only $250, so I could afford that at some later point pretty easily.

So now, next question: If I wanted a 20-30watt practice amp, what would y'all recommend. I love the Orange sound, so I was leaning that way, but I'm open to suggestions.

what are your needs in an amp besides it being 30 watts max? I'm assuming you'd rather let your pedals do the distortion work over a good clean channel as opposed to utilizing an amps onboard dirty channel correct?

An orange 2x12 with a tiny terror would suffice, but thats 15watts iirc

I've modded the hell out of mine, but straight out the box it was pretty good and very versatile. Wide open with both 12's it's loud as hell, or if I run it through my Weber Mini Mass with just one cab, I can reproduce nearly any tone and stil have a normal conversation in my living room.

Also, for small practice amps, never forget the Pignose. Battery powered, unique and fun tone, clips onto your guitar strap. What more could you want.

I've modded the hell out of mine, but straight out the box it was pretty good and very versatile. Wide open with both 12's it's loud as hell, or if I run it through my Weber Mini Mass with just one cab, I can reproduce nearly any tone and stil have a normal conversation in my living room.

Yeah the black heart amps are great for the value, they're just ugly as sin. Have you considered a vintage fender Princeton?

It's gonna be at auction so I'm not sure. I have no plans to release them commercially so I don't have a set price.

Get a Big Muff. Trust. V7 or V9. Big price difference, but both of those sound amazing on a bass. The Bass Big Muff is whatever, so if you're looking to spend less get the V9.

Anybody out there using any of the Behringer vintage series pedals? Tempted to get a time machine & the higher model tube overdrive. I know that that the tubes can be swapped. Youtube reviews seem to praise them somewhat as being an inexpensive alternative to the Electroharmonix pedals both vintage & new.

They are really really close if not dead on sonically to the original pedal's their trying to cop(except the tube tape echo). A fantastic value for the money but like any other behringer product, will only last for so long it seems. Then again, my friend treats his live board like shit which is full of behringer stuff(he keeps the more expensive boss/ehx/etc counterparts at home for recording work) and I think the only thing that died was the vb-2 clone.

It grew on me in that sexy ugly kind of way. As far as my blackheart, it really isn't the same amp as when I got it, I rewired it as a point to point, replaced the power supply with a vintage Hammond, and changed out the tubes. I also added in a reverb and Bitmo triple bypass kit. My wife tolerates my collecting guitars and synths, but I'm afraid if I started collecting vintage amps too, she'd be less tolerant of my toys.
