Note that if you're taking city buses to OSL they may be very crowded... depending where you try to get on I suppose. We stayed in the Lower Haight last year and couldn't get on the bus any of the three days (totally full, they just passed us by). We ended up bumming rides from friends or taking a cab. On the way back on Sunday we finally discovered the light rail heading our way (a few blocks walk) and jammed ourselves into the sardine can with everyone else.

^Yeah, coming from Lower Haight you could have caught a muni train at Church which would have taken you down Judah, two blocks south of the park. N-Line, I believe.

Out-of-towners aren't always hip to Muni trains and they're not as crowded. Sometimes. Check line maps before you get there.

The Judah gets pretty busy on non-festival days, though.

Really? I've never noticed. Hmm. Damn all those Chinese and their preferene for cheap, reliable public transportation. During the fest things will get more and more crowded the further out the train travels. By Church/Castro, things will start getting pretty dicey, then.

I can't honestly say, though, I always take L-Taraval when heading in/outbound and it's usually not too bad on normal days.

I've found the trains to be really crowded on festival days, even more so maybe than the buses? If I had to get downtown after the festival, my tactic would be to leave the park heading more westernly, and to try to pick up one of the bus or train lines closer to their (eastbound) origination. Also might be worth walking a few more blocks north/south to get to a line that might be less crowded.

Getting there shouldn't be a significant issue unless you wait until late in the day.

^Good call. It's not too far a walk from the fest to Great Highway, and you can catch the Judah and Noriega trains at their respective origins.

Just make sure you turn left and go in from the west side if you can. If you have to pick-up tickets at will call, you HAVE to go to the main entrance and you'll end up walking an extra mile or so. If that's the case, park closer to 19th.
Is this are just residential neighborhoods, and how far of a trek is it usually? Also, when is the best time to shoot for, in hopes of a good parking spot.

The earlier you show, the close you'll find parking. Chances are you won't be able to find anything closer than K or L (the streets in the Sunset are alphabetical: Irving, Judah, Kirkham, Lawton, etc --> Yorba). Each North-South block is about .13 miles, so you're looking at a half-mile or more. But that's not counting your walk through the park. Plan on taking 30-45 minutes for walking. Not perfect, but free parking is free parking. Just don't block anyone's driveway, even a couple inches, you will be towed.

Ok. People don't mass-transit much in my town. The busses actually don't reach my neighborhood anyway.

If you want to get on a bus I would recommend leaving at the start of the encore, otherwise there is a very good chance you wont be able to get on one.

What's the deal with the bathrooms in VIP? That's honestly the only reason I would consider getting VIP. I can't do porta potties for a lot of different reasons that I don't want to go into.

Also does this seem legit? http://sfbay.craigslist.org/sfc/tix/3173961130.html

If anyone is selling a parking pass let me know too. I trust this board more than craigslist tbqh.
