No sir. EDC takes care of the techno peoples. Although Sunday was really devoid of anything good (they may have overstretched themselves with the 3 day format and scrambling to book a festival while trying to find a venue) both Friday and Saturday were really good. Insomniac does a good job of grouping genres and acts at stages with lots of crossover interest. On Friday, the cosmic meadow featured Plastikman. Then on Saturday, they booked all the techno artists on the Circuit Grounds stage. I assume it was to give a bit of variety to people with specific tastes. Someone who was at the cosmic meadow for Plastikman is also going to be at the Richie Hawtin/Green Velvet/Umek/Gaiser stage the next day. So why not switch it up and give those people a taste of a different part of the festival?
The techno is going to be solid this year.

Yeah you're probably right.
its already 80% sold out and a single name hasnt even been officially announced from the lineup yet. theyre also only going to offer a VERY small amount of 1 day tickets because theyve sold/will sell so many 3 day passes

What's his claim? Oh that insomniac "recycles a very large portion of the talent pool". The logical absurdity of that statement aside, it's just not true. Specifically for artists that people here hold in high regard. Benny benassi and skrillex could play every year but it doesnt affect me because I'm not at that stage. So hangthedjs claim doesn't hold water either. Especially over the last 3-4 events the techno lineups have been better than anything going on in north america outside of detroit or miami. I guess if you go back far enough you'll find acts that repeat but if someone like sasha is going to repeat, I'm okay with that.
And I suppose that one lineup on that one night doesnt look that great on paper but they had alot of growing pains last year. Everything I've heard about what is in store for this year point to it being a banner year.

people complain about recycling talent? wow there's a reason that there's 5 STAGES, theres a very high chance that during almost every time slot you'd be able to see someone you havent seen before
Eh Pleasurekraft may not be techno but their set got fucking down last year, one of my favorites! Hope they repeat with a later time slot
8/9pm artist for sure suffered last year due to hectic entry situation
hangthedj's claim is that there is a large pool of artists that always play at their events. It's a pretty fucking basic claim, and it's true, and I don't know why you dummies want to try and say that it isn't true, regardless of whether or not this pool of acts are artists that you care about.
And no, they aren't getting everyone in the EDM scene, in the slightest. That is truly one of the stupidest things that has been said in here.

Oh yeah?
It's not as if there's anything inherently wrong with Insomniac's model; they also bring other acts you might not get to see and want to see, and on the west coast they are one of the only large scale events bringing a high quantity of EDM out here. But at least call a spade a fucking spade.

Ok, so what edm events have you gone to recently that you have enjoyed, and haven't had recycled talent etc? You come in here and other threads and just want to bad mouth Insomniac, so why don't you share with us the deck of cards that you are working with. Tell us where all the super underground, rare edm acts are being booked, where are these festivals?
Underground parties are so shady, I have a friend working in a crew right now and she's been fucked over by a few people in the scene, but they push on. Her husband plays live music from machines, but barely gets a solid slot. I tried to help em out before, but its very hard to go to those events as you get older and you see a bunch of kids who are in tutus and just trying to find drugs or need to find more drugs.
EDC and Insomniac events don't always trump the lineup for Hard events, but the production quality is through the roof compared to a lot of other events I've been too. Anywho - I'm excited for EDC week, I probably won't do LiB or Sasquatch since my mind will be recovering from *********
art department will be in LA sunday before edc... maybe theyll be at edc?
edit: nvm, i think theyll be in europe that weekend. tits

6/4/13 - Focus OC 10 Year Anniversary
people couldnt give away ultra tix this year. they were going for way under face
where is art department playing in LA?
Yeah there are a large pool of artists that always play at the events, because they have five stages over three days. He's claiming that the lineups are always identical so we shouldn't care about the lineup, which is absolute bullshit. They do a good job of changing the lineups considering how many fucking artists they pull every year. It's a lot easier to change up the lineups for a two day two stage event like HARD - EDC has just as much variation, but since they have so many stages there is a fuckton of overlap. Plus, you can't see every single person on the lineup, so it doesn't matter if they pull the some of the same artists because not everyone gets a chance to see them all. Even if you went to every single fucking insomniac event the whole year you could still get away without seeing an artist more than once, and sets change from year to year.
If they aren't getting everyone in the EDM scene, fine, I don't care. Sorry I don't know hundreds and hundreds of artists, clearly I know nothing about music. I honestly cannot think of anyone that they haven't pulled besides Eric Prydz and Daft Punk for obvious reasons. They pull all the EDM acts I've heard from the genres I listen to and then a ton more which introduces me to new music, but obviously this isn't good enough. Maybe their events would be better if they had shittier djs play just for the sake of novelty.
Handthedj is asking us to address his argument that there is overlap between the years - no shit, but that doesn't mean that parts of the lineup aren't new. We're excited for those acts. We're not arguing that there isn't overlap, we're arguing that there is reason to excited for the lineup in spite of the overlap.
