A bizarre list as usual. I'm not sure it's really worth discussing, but I did find the inclusion of The Cure somewhat heartening. They usually don't nominate outside the mainstream unless it's some kind of early blues artist, or clearly someone's pet project (like the continued inclusion of Laura Nyro).

BTW...I've seen 4 artists on this list, see if you can guess the one I didn't see willingly.

Here are the criteria for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame:
1) Did the act sell a LOT of records relative to their peers? If so, they're in.
2) If not 1), does Jann Wenner, Jon Landau, or to a much lesser extent, Bruce Springsteen, really like the act? If so, they're in.
3) If not 1) and 2), does the act have enough cultural cachet that even people in the suburbs and industry dinosaurs recognize the act by name? If so, the act is probably a definitive proto-punk, punk, metal, or hip-hop act, and they're in.
4) Are you Miles Davis? If so, you are in.

Watching the HBO broadcast of this year's ceremony, which was held the Saturday night of Coachella. Man, this is even worse than usual. The ultimate tribute to MCA that absolutely no one wanted to hear: Kid Rock performing the Beastie's greatest hits.

By the way, the Pixies and Jane's Addiction were both eligible this year, but apparently the '80s underground still doesn't exist in the world of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Even if we're talking about the bands that did the most to break alt rock to the mainstream.
