LOL. The same people who put on Lolla, put on ACL, blame them.
Better be Daft Punk/Talking Heads/the White Stripes for 2013!!! I wonder which festival will expand to two weekends next....
http://kutnews.org/post/acl-festival...g-two-weekendsThe Austin City Council just voted unanimously to allow C3 Presents to expand the Austin City Limits Music Festival at Zilker Park to two weekends next year.
The resolution states that City Manager Marc Ott is encouraged “to negotiate and execute an agreement with C3 Presents to include an additional weekend event for the Austin City Limits Music Festival,” beginning next year.
The resolution had included language that would allow for adding additional event days at Auditorium Shores but council members decided to take that part out – likely owing to controversy over whether a Formula One-related concert would be allowed at Auditorium Shores the weekend of a major Junior League of Austin fundraiser.
Council member Kathie Tovo expressed concern the impact a second ACL weekend would have on the SFC Farmers’ Market downtown at Republic Square Park, where festival shuttle buses operate over the concert. The city manager was encouraged to work with impacted stakeholders like the farmers’ market when negotiating with C3.

Coachella '12 Homework Helper NEW and UPGRADED!
My Blog - Now with more P90X!
Anyone know why The Weeknd cancelled?
I can see why a lot of people would consider this inferior to Coachella, but for a cheaper festival in a city park I actually had a great time. It was extremely well run, with little to no wait times getting in, free water stations that blow away anything coach has ever had, along with cheaper and better food. My only real problems were the sound (both main stages were mixed poorly with the exception of Sunday night for iggy and rhcp) although the smaller stages were excellent, especially the tent for Barrington Levy, and a less progressive lineup. However, having never seen any of the headliners before I feel like I would have gotten my money's worth even with a regular priced ticket (I lucked out and got an early bird pass from a friend). Highlights were Thievery Corporation and Die Antwoord. Biggest regret was trying to get close for Bassnectar and realizing just how bad an all ages Bassnectar crowd really is these days

Coachella has so many stupid corporate sponsors in every other facet of the festival that it seems silly not to have sponsored stages to help cut admission costs.
5/11/12 - Cloud Cult - El Rey // 5/23/13 & 5/24/13 - Boris - Echoplex // 6/7/13 + 6/8/13 - Jubilee Music Festival
6/9/13 - Devo/GZA - Natural History Museum // 6/11/13 - Bjork - Hollywood Bowl // 6/21/13-6/23/13 - Solid Sound Music Festival - MASS MOCA

At this point, so true. Coachella at this point should consider that. I have always thought it was dumb for people to let sponsors affect their mood, and how they look at a music festival. There isn't much that isn't sponsored these days. I mean all you have to do at this point is walk outside.
Yeah honestly I don't see how that's much of a factor. Heineken sponsors coach and they still charge out the ass for a beer. I prefer smaller, leave no trace festivals without corporate sponsorship where I can get them but you generally don't see headlining acts at those sorts of events

Oregon Country Fair, What The Festival, and a few other small events I've been to in Oregon. I believe burning man strives to be a leave no trace fest, although I've never been so I can't say if it's carried out. It's obviously kind of a one off from talking about corporate sponsorship but the two are rarely seen at the same place. It's really nice waking up the last or second to last morning and not seeing a sea of trash outside of your tent.

Yeah hence the problem of them never getting bigtime talent. OCF is decent size i think full attendance during the two weekend days was 50-60k this year (about 20-25k campers depending on how much of the surrounding area you count). They have a pretty intricate composte/recycling system and tons of volunteers helping for a month+before the event though. I think it takes a certain kind of crowd as well though. Old hippies are the perfect level of passive aggressive to get in other people's business and bitch at them for throwing things in the wrong container![]()
