Orbital is touring the UK next year very close to Coachella, so I think it would be unlikely that they will be there (in case anyone was wondering):

I was a bit surprised by his answer, but once I researched him a bit it made more sense. His involvement with TED is what makes me think he could actually be for real. I don't think he has much indie cred these days, since no one born in the 80s is likely to have a clue who he is and most of us Gen X'ers only know one song (thanks to MTV) which is pretty cheesy at best. However, my boyfriend is in his mid 40s and a total new-wave dork and was REALLY excited about seeing him live. (His fantasy Coachella acts are Eno and Talking Heads)

He's pretty fantastic live. Like both in what he's actually doing on stage and just his in-between song banter.

I agree. When his recent tour was announced, I knew virtually nothing about him, other than that song. The tour was really focused on his video game and how it ties into his music, it wasn't really a concert in the traditional sense. It was at least equal parts talking and singing, probably more like 2/3 lecture and 1/3 performance. It was just him and his keyboard. He explained a few of the samples he uses in detail, and even built some loops on-the-fly for his encore ("It's a lecture tour, I'm not set up to do encores!")

The whole presentation was pretty intriguing and made me wish I'd heard about the game while it was still going on, despite the fact that I haven't played an RPG since Zelda. He played a short video of the recording process for one song, the one featuring Imogen. It gave me a real appreciation for his depth as an artist, and piqued my curiosity about his body of work, including the new album.

I had imagined him doing a mid-evening spot maybe in the Gobi, but I could definitely see him doing something more complex after seeing & speaking to him.

The original article I saw last month said:

November will see a full live concert tour of the U.K. by Thomas and his band, and a theater/performing arts center tour of the USA will follow in early 2012, along with selected festival dates later in the year.

so at the very least, an appearance seems likely. Whether he was mistaken about "hosting a tent" I suppose only time will tell.
