NYE 2011-2012: Where's the party at?

In the planning stages for NYE. I know it's a bit early, but please use this place to post parties, concerts, polysexual adventures and any other type of celebration you see fit. I'd prefer events in North America, as those are my current limits. Thank you.

Having spent half of my work day yesterday searching for good music festivals/events on NYE and finding nothing that really struck my interest...

I like this plan, a lot. It's been years since I've had a NYE that wasn't centered around live music and big crowds. Something out of the way sounds fun.

Tahoe for NYE doesn't strike me as being 'off-season'. What sort of location were you thinking of? Mountains? Beaches? Lake?

I vote for someplace warm personally, I don't do well in cold climates.

Warm (not too hot!) would be fun - but that's going to eliminate a lot of people due to travel time / cost. Not saying I'm against it, just something to consider.

Train adventures in the US or other countries?

I took a couple of Amtrak adventures over a winter season, half a decade ago... there was a guy involved... it was alternately a lot of fun and really boring. (Getting delayed for hours and hours at a time sucked -- winter storms combined with freight trains having right of way). The train stopped uhmm near a prison and picked up some guys who'd just been released. We drank and played cards late into the night.
