Default Ask a Gay (or lesbian, bisexual or trans person)

Got a question for a gay dude, lesbian, bisexual or transgender person? This is your thread. If you would kindly observe a few guidelines, it would be greatly appreciated...

    What's bum sex?
    Whiskey Sour

    2 oz blended whiskey
    Juice of 1/2 lemon
    1/2 tsp powdered sugar
    1 cherry
    1/2 slice lemon

Shake blended whiskey, juice of lemon, and powdered sugar with ice and strain into a whiskey sour glass. Decorate with the half-slice of lemon, top with the cherry, and serve.

It's when you can't spare any change for the guy outside the liquor store, but your liberal guilt forces you contribute in some fashion.

From what I understand, woman to man is much more complicated because it involves the addition of things down below instead of the subtraction. So I would imagine it would be much more expensive.

That is true. My friend Karen is post-op male-to-female. She spent $35,000 on her hormone replacements, counseling, consultations and sexual reassignment surgery. I remember asking her the same question (she's very well connected in the trans community) and she said that the cost for female-to-male surgery can be as much as double that of male-to-female.

This really applies to any question one might ask. But what a stranger I find through Google says is less meaningful than a semi-stranger on this forum.

My question is for the So Cal California gays. What's up with the rivalry between Long Beach and West Hollywood gays? Is there anything similar between the SoCal and NoCal gays?

Of course. I meant this for the really obvious (and sometimes profane) "you really put it in the butt???" type of questions.

That sounds about right. I've had several friends who've done female to male transitions, and the cost is staggering. (But of course you can't put a price on being able to live your life happily, can you?) Most of them have been able to get insurance to chip in on the counseling, and in some cases even the hormone therapy, but they're on their own for the surgery. It's quite aggravating that it's considered elective by the medical & insurance communities. In the UK & some of Europe, reassignment surgeries are now covered as medically necessary procedures. We'll get there some day I guess.

West Hollywood : Long Beach :: Silverlake : Pasadena. Or something like that.

West Hollywood's gay scene is more about the scene and going out at night and whatnot, whereas Long Beach is a smaller and more tightly knit community. There was a good article about this in the LA Times a couple years ago. I'll try to find it.

This seems like as good a thread to put this under as any..

Under "popular pages' on the msn.com homepage right now, right this very second, here's what you'll find:

Teens held in abduction | Bush backs gay marriage
    Suspect admits abusing kids | Chick-fil-A anti-gay?
Man claims Glaxo drug made him gay sex addict
Don’t forget Valentine’s Day | Child sex rings increase
Based on this small snippet sample, it would appear that Americans are obsessed with gay pedophilia. On Valentine's Day. thoughts? what does this say about us as a society?

    http://articles.latimes.com/2004/aug...surrounding26:

To those who call this part of Long Beach home, it's a contrast to West Hollywood's vibrant gay scene, which is decidedly more glitzy and nightlife-oriented.

In Long Beach, people take pride in the area's neighborliness and the mix of gay and straight people.

"You don't really come to Long Beach for the clubs. You come here for the people," said Jonathan Roberts, 19.

Those who frequent the Library, a coffeehouse and bookstore that flies a rainbow flag, can usually name the majority of people who have taken up residence on the stuffed chairs there.

"This is the kind of place and kind of gay community where everyone knows everyone," said Adam Pogue, 26, who works at the Library.

I'm not sure if 19 year old Jonathan Roberts should be considered a worthwhile source.

This is entirely off subject, but I would just like to say that, as a librarian, I HATE establishments that name themselves "The Library", just on principle.

/got tired of being asked, "Oh, you work at The Library? You mean that bar near campus where everyone dresses like naughty schoolgirls?" and/or "Where's your schoolgirl outfit"

    Carry on.

Provided you are lesbian or bi, this could be on topic.

    So.. where is it?

I've always been less in favor of the naughty schoolgirl look, and more in favor of the naughty nurse look.

We probably need a separate thread to talk about our preferences of women in "naughty" professions.

Fear not, the Library on Mill is closed. It is now much more appropriately named Blondes.

I hope this brings a ray of sunshine to this otherwise blustery day.

I already knew that, but thanks. And there was much rejoicing.
