    Default U2 2012

They fucking killed it at Glastonbury.
U2 on the polo fields would be magical and they would guarantee a two weekend sellout

New album is supposed to drop in late 2012 and they could do 2013 since they may be in touring mode then.

That is a good call especially since they rarely do one-off shows

Agree with the OP. Anyone who saw last nights Glastonbury set would have to agree they were great. They would be amazing but I would be suprised if they played Coachella 2012 given their world tour ends in a month after running over two years...

For the record, they've never sold themselves out to commercials unlike MANY Coachella acts. And they own ALL their masters and publishing, unlike MOST past Coachella acts.

If you want "douchebags", look no further than Morrissey, Maynard or Mike Patton.

This is a weird combination. How do these guys fit into the douche bag sellout mode, exactly?

Too expensive to even do The Claw at a festival for starters. I dont think GV wants to blow $10,000,000 on just U2 for a performance including The Claw.

U2 didn't sell themselves to the ipod ad. They gave the music away for free as a means to advertise their u2 only ipod. No sellout occured as they were only selling their music to those who wanted to buy/hear it.

Mox, MJK and MP are well known for their prickly personalities.

There is no sign u2 will use the claw after July 30th. Their Glasto fee was well under $1mil. Their Salt Lake City gross was the lowest on the tour at $3mil.

As pointed out, U2 makes more money on one single headlining gig then they would from a standard festival headlining slot. U2 played Glasto for absurdly cheap, because they wanted to. They grew up with Glastonbury being a major part of their music scene and therefore their lives, just like every other act from that part of the globe. They agreed to do it in honor of the 40th anniversary, not because of the payout.

No matter how well the show went over, I highly highly highly doubt you'll ever see them suddenly join the festival circuit. Every night of their tour is the size of most festivals. It simply doesn't make financial sense, so the only time you'll see them do something like this is when it has an emotional meaning to it for them. AKA, they are not playing Coachella.

it helped sell regular ipods too didn't it, and u2 style ipods, which apple and u2 profited from?

Paul McCartney plays the same types of shows as U2 and he's done his share of festivals so I see U2 playing Coachella at least once. And Coachella has already had huge name headliners so I think U2 would be a very fitting one since I don't know how many realistic headliners GV can really get at this point.

Your argument isn't making a lot of sense. So they can pull $3million on a standard tour stop....who's to say they wouldn't be offered that much or more to headline a night at Coachella or Bonnaroo?

I don't think you understand meaning of "sell out."

if they do coachella next year, it would be perfect cuz it would be the 25th anniversary of the Joshua tree. at glastonbury they referenced its been 20 yrs since they wrote the songs for achtung baby and zooropa so their is a shot. a longhsot but its possible.

the U2 that played glasto is the band i want to see at coachella. keep it basic and rock the fuck out!!

I don't think their Glasto set was that good...I mean it was good, but it seemed like they were lacking a lot of energy (jet lag I'm sure)...some of the song renditions just didn't seem that great (Sunday Bloody Sunday for example).

i think the weather buried everyone. so many people looked so tired and Bono and the band tried their best. i watched it again last night and i put it on my speaker system and it sounds good. i mean its not the 80's U2 i love, but it was a good set.
