One of the things I've noticed with decibel-reducing earplugs is that it reduces the crowd noise almost to oblivion. Since part of what I enjoy about the festival experience is the crowd, this took some getting used to when I first started wearing earplugs; but now it's kinda nice.

I was the same way at first, but now I LOVE that! No more annoying squealing girls, no more chitter chatter from people there to socialize instead of listen. Sometimes I feel like I am having my own personal concert

I'm in my mid-20's and I've noticed that I do this a lot, now I never go to a festival/show without earplugs. Etymotic makes some great earplugs at an affordable price. I've been using them for a year now and have no complaints.

I'm not even 30 and my ears are doing pretty bad... With having ear-infections all the time as a kid, being born slightly deaf, going skydiving last year and busting my eardrum, I will DEFINITELY be wearing my earplugs. Let someone say something to me...

yeah, you look like a dork but the high fidelity plugs are super damn awesome. you can hear people talk around you while its going on... it actually sounds better i think naturally vibrations conflict with each other too and you still maintain the integrity/quality.

and the moment after a show when you normally spend 6 minutes yelling about what to do next is accomplished by 'follow me!'

Add me to the mid-30's with fucked up hearing list. I have tinnitus due to numerous concerts in my 20s which I though was going to be nothing more than a loud ring that same night. I can ignore it most of the day but in dead silence it's nerve wracking and even a little sad to know I will never stop hearing "that".

I go to shows weekly and plan to for my entire life, when your unable to hear in a few years get use to watching those badass interpreters on the stages..

Now to the people that just put foam plugs in their ears, i do feel sorry for you that must sound like mush, i got a pair of hi-fi ones on amazon for like 20 bucks shipped. There are even cheaper ones if you so desire.

I can't hear shit either, it's really frightening.

Trust the ear plug crowd -- I have the same ones as his link above (Etymotic brand). They're not custom made but are great -- you hear everything clearly, just won't go deaf in the process. Foam ones suck -- don't even bother.

I learned the hard way my first night w/o plugs -- got no sleep b/c my ears were ringing so bad. Not a good way to start off the weekend.

^didn't mean to link the large ones. you kinda have to position them right to make them work the way you want to. they can make it louder or quieter depending on how you place them in your ear.

i started to temporarily lose hearing in my right ear after every show i went to. the thought of losing my hearing scares the shit out of me. i've worn ear plugs ever since.

I've never worn ear plugs at gigs and I've never suffered anything more than mild ringing afterwards.
