I feel like going to the doctor unless you really, seriously need to is a waste of both time and money*.

*I realize prophylaxis is important and regular check-ups can prevent or improve a whole host of problems, but seriously, fuck that shit.

Havent looked thru the whole thread, but does anyone else here use Kaiser?

They take out like $90 a pay check and I claim single/no dependents. I was gonna cancel my medical a while back cuz I dont really use it but everyone said not too. I feel like its only useful if you have a family but you never know when something might happen.

So if you get hit by a bus what's supposed to happen then? We should just leave you on the side of the road to die?

Amy, Corinna doesn't mean that literally. She's being ironic. What she really means is that she would be tickled pink if you told everyone what she's really thinking all the time.

I was just wondering what everyone else is experience with them was.

One of my nostrils is always stuff, I went in it was like $20 co-pay and $30-40 for some pills but I dont think they really did anything' Claritin works better. Another time I went in cuz I sometimes get a rash or turn red when I drink alot. I think im alergic to jagar, I did an alergy test and the doctor just said...ehh dont drink so much.

The time I went in for pink eye, they treated me okay but I dont know if I should just stay w/them or pick a different health care provider from my benefits.

No. I legitimately believe that going to the doctor for anything other than emergency services or prescriptions is a huge waste of time.

Good article (latest in the series) in the NYT today about healthcare pricing in the US. This one is focused on medical devices.

The American health care market is plagued by such “sticky pricing,” in which prices of products remain high or even increase over time instead of dropping. The list price of a total hip implant increased nearly 300 percent from 1998 to 2011, according to Orthopedic Network News, a newsletter about the industry. That is a result, economists say, of how American medicine generally sets charges: without government regulation or genuine marketplace competition.

“Manufacturers will tell you it’s R&D and liability that makes implants so expensive and that they have the only one like it,” said Dr. Rory Wright, an orthopedist at the Orthopedic Hospital of Wisconsin, a top specialty clinic. “They price this way because they can.”

On a show yesterday: "4 out of 5 people (that can afford it) will get a knee replacement in the future." I wonder what it would cost for a body replacement cr****

Instead of recoding it correctly, my doctor just sent me a personal check for $150 because he incorrectly coded a physical (preventative care the insurance company would have paid 100% for). I find it odd that he’d do this, instead of recoding it with my insurance company.

I’m pretty sure this is a passive aggressive concession to make me feel guilty after whining to him about having to pay doctor visits for controlled substance refills.

In my experience physicians are horrible businessmen. Your passive aggressive hypothesis may have merit, but an alternative is that you may be overestimating your doctor's savvy.
