La la love you.

Interview with Stereogum has a few more live details:
STEREOGUM: I could see how it expanded to fill that space. Do you find it particularly challenging figuring out how to translate the music into a live setting?
GONZALEZ: It is. It’s always challenging to play live. Especially for this kind of music where it’s just layers and layers of tracks put together. So the album sound is never going to work. You have to find a different way to do it. It’s just different. I just want to put forth something different to people. That’s my main idea of playing live. You can just forget about every song and just play the hits, the bigger songs, and the more dancey ones. You know, you just want to please the crowd and the audience. With this one, I’m really excited about it. We’re going to have a proper light show, which we never had before. I feel like people are expecting this. We want the audience to have a proper visual experience when they come to our live shows. We’re gonna have more musicians onstage so less sequences. I’m so excited. We just have so much work to do. I’m really stressed out. It’s been almost three years since I’ve been on the road, so I’m just excited to reconnect with my fans and play this new album live.
So if you look in the booklet for the cd, there is a code to download an interlude for the two discs. It is entitled Mirror.
You'd go here to get it if you had the code. http://www.m83mirror.com/accessForm.php

HAPPY HAPPY HAPPY NO SOUL
I couldn't get through the album on my first listen. Listened to the whole thing a few days ago, did not like it. I'll give it one more chance.
I just listened to it again today, probably the 3rd or 4th time I've put it on and listened to it front to back. I really like it, and am very excited for the show in a few weeks.

What a bloated mess. Less is more.
This album is so good... My vinyl copy just came in so I sat down and listened with the lyrics in front of me for the first time. Very cool. You can definitely see the influence from The Wall and Mellon Collie for sure. Even the pacing is very similar to The Wall in my opinion.
Aesthetically it just gets everything right for me. It takes sonic elements from all of his previous works and merges them into these huge, epic, anthemic pop songs that just have a lod of appeal for me. i am a fan of that type of singing, i am generally a huge fan of those kinds of in your face bass lines. i love the atmospheric, spacey orchestral interludes. i love the thumping, building, fluttering synths, huge choruses, choir backups, ect etc.
This is like my dream album. it's doing everything for me that Sufjan's Age of Adz managed to last year.

No, I meant I wanted you to explain why you said the final artistic output isn't as important as long as the artist enjoyed making the art. That was the point I was arguing against. You don't have to defend why you like the album, as that's always going to be subjective opinion. I'm glad one of us likes it.
oh.
I was disagreeing with "I think the songs are bad." in my heaed. Guess i should have clarified.
To be fair though, I think art is a pretty personal thing, so it depends on what the artist is attempting to do. The output is important only based on what goals are trying to be attained by said art. If a project is simply done for self-fulfillment and enjoyment, then it really doesn't fucking matter what anybody else thinks about it.

I really liked the album on the first few spins. I still like it, but the cheesyness started to get to me after awhile. Also, I hate the drum fills. There so much space in some of the songs for some interesting fills, but they tend to be all the same sluggish rolls. It annoys me in a way that the old UB40 drum tracks did. Once I zone in on it I can't ignore it. I wish he would have got Neil Peart or Stew Copeland to throw down.
The drum fills are pretty much the same exact drum fills he's used on every other album, they don't bother me much.

Want to give M83 a listen. Should I start with the new double album, or Saturdays?
I usually like to leave the best for last.
Then leave Dead Cities, Red Seas & Lost Ghosts for last.

Honestly, I think M83 is the type of act where you should start from the beginning. Just one man's opinion.

Well, I went ahead and purchased the last two albums. I guess I'll have to go in reverse...
From the songs I've heard, this band seems right up my alley, can't believe I never heard them before.
Love the bassline from Claudia Lewis. Not technical, but it has the sound of a solid session player. It's well structured with some very traditional sounding fills, but its perfect in a very conventional sort of way. Hope to see it live.
You will (assuming you purchased a ticket for the Phoenix show).

M83 was fantastic tonight
It was so great to finally get to see him play a non festival set
It's also worth mentioning that he almost sold out a venue with a capacity of 1300 in fucking Orlando of all places
