    Default VIP in 2012

I saw that the FAQ on the Coachella homepage states:

What do VIP passes get you?
There are a limited number of VIP passes for purchase. A VIP festival pass includes general admission to the festival plus access to the VIP area(s). The main VIP area is located immediately adjacent to the main stage and consists of shaded areas, picnic tables, couches, extra restrooms, food & beverage vendors and a full cash bar. The second VIP area is located directly next to the Sahara tent in the beautiful Rose Garden complete with full cash bar, spectacular views and thousands of roses.

Does this mean that there will be no area in the front of any of the stages for VIP in 2012?

I emailed GV this morning and they said VIP will have the same privileges as this past year, so no special viewing areas.

pretty sure those areas were technically for "guest" and "artist" wristband holders, and others with extra access like production and photo. sure some with vip bands got in, but don't think it was supposed to be like that. there were signs backstage directing people to the guest viewing areas and the only way into the main stage area was via the backstage corridor the few times i went over there, they weren't allowing anyone in through the ga crowd.

Those "celebrities" in the very front of the main stage are not VIP pass holders. They have an "all access" pass, which is more exclusive than a VIP pass. I saw Star Jones during Duran Duran, how random.

Yeah vip doesn't seem worth it. And you have to be a major douche to get into that front area anyway.

I bought VIP for 2011 and didn't access either of the VIP areas once. Not once did I have desire or need to get to the VIP areas off main stage or near Sahara. Waste of a few hundred dollars, and I just bought a GA pass for 2012 without feeling I'll miss out on anything. I know better now.

If you never went to either VIP area then how do you know whether you did or didn't miss out on anything?

The Rose Garden is beautiful but VIP is not worth it at Coachella IMO. It's really just a chance to buy more stuff because they have a larger and more expensive bar selection. Their beer garden near the mainstage is slightly closer but we rarely watched shows from there. Bathrooms aren't even an advantage because Coachella does such a good job of taking care of theirs in GA.

Liquor and beer prices were the same this year in VIP and GA. There might have been a wider selection of liquor in VIP though.

I was pleasantly surprised to see that bathroom lines in GA were alot shorter this year, but that had more to do with the overall attendance than anything else. You are usually outnumbered by empty bathrooms in VIP so wait = 0. But again, if it doesn't seem worth it to you, don't get a VIP ticket.

My girl and I bought VIP tix for 2012. She prefers to be as comfortable as possible and can't really stand the heat. I grew up in the desert and it doesn't faze me.

I must say though the ample shade and better facilities must have its advantages. Especially for girls, who have to hover nearer to the toilet seat.

We did GA with our 2 1/2 year old and found it too hot to bring him before 5-6pm. Which was fine, we saw maybe three shows in any of the tents. Mostly stuck to main and outdoor stage.

This year we are leaving the little one with grandma and probably going to be there open to close. I'll let you know if it was worth it!!

I hope you feel special in VIP standing next to my teenagers. They love music but hate hipsters.

She sounds like a pussy who has to fly 1st class.

Do you carry her around so her feet don't hurt from walking?

Another big advantage to VIP is the entrance and parking. In previous years, it took hours to leave after a headliner and drive back to the hotel.

With VIP parking and separate exit, we were at In'n'Out burgers before they closed

My girl has MS. Look it up. Also, we have the money to do things like VIP and fly first class, if we choose. Don't hate just because we have disposable income.

I had VIP in 2010 and it was great, but that was only because the polo fields were such chaos and having a place to get away was so helpful. But after the awesome changes in '11, I see no point to VIP.
