    Weiner’s Wife Is Pregnant

    Quote Originally Posted by blogs.nytimes.com

Now, Representative Anthony D. Weiner and Huma Abedin are about to make news of a different kind: they are expecting their first child.

Ms. Abedin, 35, is in the early stages of pregnancy, according to three people with knowledge of the situation.

The pregnancy, which the couple has disclosed to close friends and family, adds a new dimension to questions about the future of their marriage.

Mr. Weiner, 46, who has admitted to engaging in salacious online conversations with at least six women over the last few years, has declared that he and his wife have no intention of splitting up, even though some of the exchanges occurred during their marriage.

“We will weather this,” Mr. Weiner said on Monday, during his emotional news conference. “I love her very much, and she loves me.”

But Ms. Abedin, a longtime aide to Hillary Rodham Clinton, has remained silent about the topic as she keeps up a hectic schedule at the State Department.

Ms. Abedin returned to work this week and departed on Wednesday for a trip to Northern Africa with Ms. Clinton.

A State Department spokesman declined to comment Wednesday afternoon.

    how you figure?
Clinton was impeached for lying about that shit.

It's not about excusing sex. It's about lying. Clinton was accused of obstructing justice.

In any case it's a silly thing to say that leftists excused clinton more than weiner.

jack, i was just making a comment about the public reaction. I felt most liberals found it ridiculous that impeachment procedings even took place for Clinton and the consensus was a lot of wasted time about a lie about sex. Yes, I understand the impeachment was because it was a lie under oath.

I don't think the sentiment is similar today. I think more people are offended by what Weiner did. Also, Clinton was impeached by Republicans, not democrats and I was talking about the reaction from the left. I think like 3 dems voted for impeachment.

and yes lying is so important to the American people they keep electing the biggest and best liars. In many cases for multiple terms and the lies they elect them on are a bit bigger than lies about twittering underwear photos.

Nobody's talking about careers built on lies. you're comparing hooplah over lewd acts. I was at the start of my adulthood when Clinton wet his cigar. Trust me the Clinton hooplah was at least as big a deal, actually a bigger deal. For fucks sake John Goodman's career was bolstered by his Linda Tripp impersonation.

The difference between then and now is the media is more fast-paced, and news channels have been reduced to quoting from fucking blogs and tweets to keep up. It only SEEMS like you're hearing more about this, because it's easier for any random idiot to be heard now.

We just don't communicate well Jack. I wasn't saying the Clinton thing wasn't a big deal. It was a huge deal. I wasn't talking about hooplah, I was talking about the general public preception and response, not political hooplah. I was working for the law firm Ken Starr worked for at the time (he was in our D.C. office, I worked at the home office in Chicago). We recieved daily memos about how to deal with and avoid the press when leaving work for a while. I too was an adult when this all went down and remember it all very well.

This also isn't something coming to light because someone knew something and decided to come forward with it. There's no room for people to decide that it's not really their business because his own lack of basic sense is what brought the whole thing out. No pun etcetera.

I think what you're not taking into account is our ability to be aware of public perception nowadays. Imagine today's world of instantaneous information consumption and universal social connectivity being present during the Clinton scandal. it's hard to compare general public reactions to events like this without using this perspective

You're right i'm not taking that into account. I was assuming after all of these sex scandals that actually involved sex and some of these politicians actually remaining in office and getting re-elected after much worse, that Weiners sins would be chuckled at rather than admonished despite the constant reporting. Back to the political side, it's almost amusing to hear so many of his peers act like they are morally superior. I would love to see everyone in congress share their hard drive. I had a friend who worked in IT in the late 90's in offices for state house representatives. He said I would be shocked to know how many of them had child porn on their computers. Can you imagine? I was mortified and disturbed at the thought. This wasn't even their computers at their house. This was in their office.

Hannah you also make a good point. He has been trying to stay ahead of this story from the beginning. He had a press conference where he decided to stay for a half hour and answer questions too. He talked to the press and lied every single day about it for a week. He's certainly responsible for it all.

That's not really what I meant. I mostly meant there's a huge difference between knowing someone's fucking around on their wife because you're told as much and knowing that someone's fucking around on their wife because they inadvertently faxed you, your family, and all the nation's preteens photographs of their genitals.

I understand exactly what you're saying, and I think you're wrong. The general public perception and response was mixed but amplified compared to this. You're just hearing it more fast paced. Regarding your original claim that politicians are being harsher on him than Clinton, it's apples and oranges. The reason you're hearing more democrats give him shit and call for his resignation is because he's not the damned president of the united states. It's probably reasonably safe to get rid of democratic congressman from a Dem leaning district, and there's even rumored Dem strategies to try get rid of his seat all together. Kicking out your president is pretty much a guarantee of a republican president in the next term.

In a recent poll. a large majority of the voters in his congressional district do NOT want him to resign. It should be up to the people in his district. He may get redistricted out anyway. Personally, Weiner is an outstanding member of Congress and I hope he stays. This "Weinergate" has made people forget about John Edwards, who did much worse.
